  • this is part of what I like to call accounting extremism where it makes sense on paper, if you save 0,01 eurodollars a pen you probably save like 5000 eurodollars a year or so. It's just it does not consider anything that does not fit neatly into a single line KPI in an excel table, like "does this organisation still work"

  • I feel like as soon in the past as the late 80s this is an entirely uncontroversial statement and should there be somebody to look back on it in a 100 years, the period of roughly 1990 to 2020 where the US pretended to care about democracy is gonna be the weird blip

  • There is a subsection of the population mostly made up of pensioniers that occupy flats with ~30-70 year old renting contracts that mean through a web of interdependent laws they pay reasonable accomodation for their dwellings, close to, sometimes under, maybe slightly over upkeep.

That is entirely a privilege of having moved into a state or workers coop-built appartement in the 60s or 70s at the latest though and is entirely irreproducable to anyone born after that fact. Homeownership in germany is not seen as a goal on account of people having given up on a pipedream they'll never reach anyways for the most part. It's basically not possible for large swathes of the population born in the 1980s and onwards.

Incidentally, germany is a hotbed of money laundering and storing for organized crime in the EU because the laws around buying and selling houses are set up in a way that makes it incredibly easy to basically nullify any search and discovery or building enforcement on them because as it stands it pits, if I transliterate to an americanized audience, Cletus the slack jawed Yokel from Nowhere, PA against Shadow Housing Dealings S.A.R.L. (registered to a cyprese postbox that currently resides at the deep end of the mariana trench). Nothing will ever be done about this because the same laws also benefits people like former health minister / organized crime head Jens Spahn when he is gifted a multimillion flat that not even convicted journalists can get info on

  • you should get rid of the assumption that things need to make sense to these people

trust me I don't but especially if I pick up the simulation thing that also seems to concern a lot of people who aren't religious. I mean I get the religious people, it's in direct affront to the axioms you structure your entire shit around. That makes sense to me, even if I don't share the axioms.

  • honestly I never got this. Same with the simulation thing. What's it matter if we're in a simulation or all I ever do is the result of some salty fat firing off neurons? I mean what am I going to do about that?

  • I feel like just saying this carries the chance of Donald Trump personally reading it and doing it if only to use it in some speech like "the losers in Ukraine, they say they can't do it without our money, can't do it folks. They say I can't cut their money but I'm cutting it, I'm cutting the money to the [hard T] Ukraine, they can't do it without us so I say they can't do it folks."

  • I do know a few young people are tech/programming wizards but "generally tech savy" people seem to be declining. It's either you're really into it or barely know anything outside popular apps.

I feel like we also got a new kind of guy, the tech-forward digital illiterate. They run most of everything.
