  • People keep saying he's getting worse, but to me he just seems like the same old narcissistic racist asshole that he's always been 🤷‍♂️

Maybe his "charisma", if you can call it that, is faltering a bit, but he may just be off balance from the sudden storm of twists over the past month.

  • I think Trump is accustomed to thinking his spouses are lesser beings that exist only to bolster his image and serve at his pleasure, and he probably harbors deep feelings of disdain for all of them that he can't express publicly.

So for him it totally tracks to be married to a type of person that you hate.

  • Nothing is ever better in every conceivable way than the current state of the art.

Probabilistically, sure, but it's not impossible that there has been some piece of knowledge or understanding that's been missing, and that massive breakthroughs are possible once the process is figured out.

I think a fair modern example is LED light bulbs. They are better in every conceivable way than incandescent or fluorescent lightbulbs: they last longer, use less energy, shine brighter, use less toxic materials, and are easy to mass produce. But there were several decades where much of the industry believed that LEDs would never be very useful as a light source because we could only produce red and green, and it was generally believed that a blue LED would be impossible to produce.

Then one guy decided it would be his life mission to invent the blue LED, and the sonuvabitch did it. Now LEDs are the only sensible thing to use to produce light.

It's always possible for this kind of breakthrough to happen, especially in material science where the complexity of how molecules interplay is nearly incomprehensible.

  • It is absolutely a thing among conservative circles. I've known young women whose own mothers scared them away from using tampons because they said it would break the hymen and then you could no longer prove you're a virgin (or some claim that you truly aren't a virgin anymore, as though you can lose your virginity to a tampon) so then you'll be considered unclean and no decent man will want you anymore.

It's gobsmackingly stupid but it is very very real.

  • Iran wants revenge on Trump for assassinating their favorite general, right-hand man of their Supreme Leader. If he goes to Iran he'll for sure be tortured and then executed.

Also I wouldn't suggest that Russia is safe for anybody. If anything I expect Trump to go there because they have the most kompromat on him, and they'll extort him into coming so they can use him as leverage. At that point you may be right that Putin would hand him over to serve Putin's own interest. But if Trump makes any other choice he'll probably end up drinking some polonium coke.

  • The fact that it's limited to first-time house buyers will at least help mitigate some of the advantage that commercial real estate buyers have over ordinary folks that are just trying to get a roof over their heads.

  • Trump keeps insisting that he defeated Biden too fast this time: beat him before the votes were even cast by winning so hard in the first debate.

So yes, it's exactly what you said: Trump knows that he never gets to legitimately claim victory over Biden, so he's delusionally claiming it anyway with any rationale he can come up with.

  • I think the point is that Republicans detest the idea of being weird no matter what, so they would rage at the suggestion of being a good weird anyway. To them "good weird" is an oxymoron, even though they are actually very weird and not in any kind of good way.

  • You'd be surprised how genuinely nice racists can be towards ladder pullers. It's important to remember that racism isn't really about genetics or appearance at the end of the day but about structures of power and oppression. A black person that helps to reinforce that structure is invaluable and will be treated as such (even if they're never actually seen as an equal or as anything more than a tool to manipulate).

  • At best this post is letting perfection be the enemy of "not ceding to a fascist narcissist that aims to be a dictator and will do incalculable damage whether he manages to overthrow democracy or not".

At worst this post is bait from a Russian troll farm that's trying to demoralize leftists so we act against our own interests by making shallow ideological appeals.

    Either way, get bent.
