    Such is life

  • looks like I'm one of the many that use Star Trek ships for my naming scheme:

    Enterprise - My gaming PC
Kumari (Gen. Shran's ship) - my debian laptop
Defiant - another debian laptop (a two-in-one ultraportable)

  • This reminds me of a video a few years ago where a mom was trying to take a picture with her kid and a bison. The kid looked super nervious, but mom kept pushing the kid to get closer. There's gotta be so many close calls like that where people don't realize that national parks are not zoos, and the animals will absolutely fuck you up. Hell, animals in zoos will fuck you up too, that's why they tell you to stay away from the fence.

  • I mean, if you have nothing to hide, then surely you don't need window blinds or a bedroom door? It should also mean that it's okay for guests to rifle through your closet and dresser drawers, right?

  • I also don't need it to have a bazillion-septillion-megamillion users to consider it successful. In my mind, engagement with 10 people is worth much more than a thousand upvotes from someone mindlessly clicking my post.

  • Would make a good esports match

365 noscope vs. creative cloud of carnage

  • I run a small community of under 100 users. Everyone's been following the rules so far, and there hasn't been very much that has needed my attention. I still try to make an occasional post and interact with posts that other users make (favorite, boost, comment).

I think that if you're at least interacting with your communities in some way, you should be good!

  • How did I know before even clicking that this would be a Technology Connections video

  • If there's a community missing that you really want to see, why don't you try to start it yourself? That's what I did on kbin. I'm a big train nerd and missed /r/trains and /r/trainporn, so I started a train magazine to fill that niche. I really have no idea what I'm doing and haven't run a community before, but it's been going pretty good! We're at 80 subscribers, and have started "picking up steam" so to speak.

You should give it a shot!

  • American "people" when they say "baddle of wadder"

  • I've had a mastodon account for a few years but I'm not super active on it, since I'm not a huge fan of microblogging. I learned about lemmy from the reddit alternatives sub, but never gave it much thought. I didn't realize it was part of the fediverse, and didn't really commit to making an account due to the lack of content at the time.

I learned about Kbin during all the recent reddit drama, and decided to give that a try. Now that I've been here for a while and understand federation, I'm really loving it. I'm really excited to see where this goes as the platforms and federation concept starts to mature and gain traction

  • God (or insert omnipotent being of choice) shouldn't have built the universe with a 32 bit register

  • Having been part of other reddit exo... exoduses? I have a good feeling about this one. It's not a total wasteland, and hasn't immediately devolved into nazi filth. I've got a feeling this one's gonna stick

  • I wonder where this guy is today. How many shirts he's sewn, or package trucks he's sunk

  • All that needs to happen now is for meta to launch a reddit clone that steals away all of reddit's users

  • really feeling like we've been transported back to 2009
