  • As I said, I predicted it was trash in regards to programming. I'm ok with a bit of lag, or maybe some visual glitches. But I was not prepared to Valve pushing out a such untested steaming pile of crap for Linux. The gameplay could be good, but it does not seem like it from many opinions I heard. But anyway, without CS:GO and none of the game modes I liked in CS:S, I thought there was nothing to lose by trying it (well I was wrong, it took me ~1 hour reinstalling all packages due to not syncing before force restarting, but even if I'd though about it, I couldn't have done anything about it).
But as I said, I didn't even get to see more than the settings menu, which I find unnecessarily over engineered too - who the fuck cares about new settings if they just want adjusting something -, as it just crashed after switching between the 'game' and Firefox three times. Just crashed my whole system, and idk how. But I know that such errors happen to me with some very badly written engines, over engineered and run through wine. Which means Valve apparently just abandoned the Idea of supporting Linux at least ok-ish completely and fucked that poor source engine hard. Even 4A games' selfmade 4A engine has native Linux support, with RT, DLSS, FSR, etc. and no bugs. Yet Valve can't advance their engine to support a fraction of those features without lowering the quality to the level of a trashy Windows only engine run through wine.

  • It started with lagging. While loading the game. Classic lagging as in the dark filter fading out flimmering. Then CS2 kept rapidly switching between Fullscreen and Windowed, on sway. Then it randomly froze. My whole system. No luck with even switching to another TTY. So I force rebooted after 10 mins. Started into clearing orphaned inodes, then staying on that message. Force rebooted again. Still stuck at "Arch_Linux_boot: clean, x/x files, x/x blocks".

CS2 basically just broke my PC.

I will never touch it again. I predicted it was going to be trash, not gameplay wise but programmatically.

  • It's not necessarily PS itself, I bet it would be fine on a Linux machine with a typical Linux terminal. It's just that I cannot stand the rest of Windows, especially the CLI part, especially cmd: Awful to no tab complete support, no command history across cmd restarts, if tab complete works its only for files and even sucks there because of the ignore case design and completing a full name instead of to the next clear step (eg. "tes" for a dir containing "test.exe" and "test.mp4" will complete to "test.exe" instead of "test."). Additionally, I associate PS with Windows and tasks on it. Most things I want to run on Linux only I write in C/C++ (depending on the task itself ofc). If I want compatibility with Linux and Windows I use python. To install that script to a usable state it's literally a single command on Linux, if the method of transferring the script (probably a git repo) supports saving the executable permission bit: sudo cp script.py /usr/local/bin/patchjar.py. Even if you want an own directory with your own path, that's no problem: Just cp a .sh file to /etc/profile.d/ that appends to the path. And removing it is as easy as deleting that file. On Windows? Chocolatey has a ~100 line script just for that purpose, backs up the path just in case and even explicitly states uninstall it can break your whole system? Why? Because Windows uses a single global PATH variable for everything. You need to edit the registry, extract your path with loops, remove it and write it back. And that's a pattern being repeated through the whole OS. You want to move a window on the screen or start something on another monitor? Well fuck you. On Linux? assign [app_id=TuxKart] workspace gaming. For an OS claiming to be integrated with everything in itself that seems like pretty damn dumb and frustrating to a dev.

  • AAA just means the publisher is a mid sized or major publisher. Which means literally nothing in today's time.
Look at 90% of all 'AAA' games today and compare it with eg. Minecraft, which is basically an Indie game. Which is better? Of course, back in 2000 AAA games were good, look at HL and later HL 2, Portal etc. Could be just Valve tho.

  • For me it starts bullshitting about Microsoft being a large company so mistakes can happen, but ofc M$ is dedicated to being good and reliable blablabla. Definitely not my experience with M$ Teams. I should reach out to support. Well those idiots first "advice" would be using Edge on Windows ofc.

  • Some Lemmings are extremely right. That is the norm on any other social media too. Luckily they were often contained on a specific instance. What I noticed tho is that at least in my german bubble the view is very, very left. That's noticeable especially as the consensus of eg. !ich_iel@feddit.de seems to be extremely pro towards protestors of the last generation, which are often criticised in my real life bubble for their actions as they're seen as too extreme. Could be that my RL bubble is just much more right than I perceive it to be, even after blending out some individuals.
The ich_iel community existed as sub on fuggid too, it was never as left tho. I guess there are much less older and therefore theoretically less tech savvy as well as statistically conservative folks people on Lemmy in general. Conservatives would probably care about new, better platforms anyway.

  • Well the admin of a site could opt out of using cloudflare for the time being, a user could do literally nothing. Errors in Cloudflare can easily take down their servers and therefore the CDN and access to like 20% of websites. And Bugs in Cloudflare can even leak user data.

So cloudflare can grant DDOS Protection, CDNs and other exploiting protection, but can take down large parts of everything, temporarily or permanently.

  • Considering all ghosts have different algorithms, and Clyde is probably the most advanced, switching between hunting and fleeing, it would be true, as probably nothing was so advanced in 1980.
Honorable mention to HL 1 for having more advanced cockroach algorithms in 1998 than some human algorithms in 2023.

  • Except it's possible to work around it, with a minimal amount of knowledge, or by using alternatives.
    Reddit? Lemmy.
    Twitter? Mastodon.
YouTube? Peertube. For youtube just use piped.video
    Ads? UBlock.

  • I've 14 items in Authy, and basically never used SMS as 2FA. Only to validate my identity on first signup. The only time SMS was used as 2FA for me was by the company I had an internship in programming in.

  • Signal has Stories too, tbh. All apps are beginning to integrate them. Still, they suck.
The worst thing about Telegram was and still is that End to End encryption is a special add on feature and not the default. Group chats aren't secure either. The only reason why Telegram is used as more secure for illegal activities is that it does not cooperate with law enforcement well and has its HQ in Dubai. That does not prevent any hacks or leaks tho.
