Probably Debian. It's basically the most used distro, and therefore has many online resources.

• Old software, but very stable.
• No bloat, very clean.
• No custom programs interfering with any configurations etc.
• Support for many server software etc.

If you want an even cleaner OS, where (nearly) everything is under your control and as lightweight as possible, Arch would be for you. There's the bonus of the AUR, but the huge problem of newest, "unstable" software, though I've yet to experience any problem on testing repos, except for the Nvidia drivers. In general, Debian should be enough of lightweightiness and control.

And it needs even less memory than Electron, even if it runs as an own instance with a different profile! I replaced Discord with it a year ago and it's much better in literally every way. I just wish there would be a FF alternative for Electron.

I only ever got problems with my Arch install on my main PC (testing repos, updated every boot/shutdown) once, when NVidia drivers updated. On my servers, also Arch and testing repos, but updated monthly, there never were any problems.

In contrast, Ubuntu/Pop stopped booting properly after a year or so, and due to the more closed, out of the box and undocumented nature (while one knows their Arch system to the single package if one installs it themselves) it was nearly impossible to debug.

Even though it has some bugs (Wrong formatting, backticks inside of other chars), it works nicely. The only thing concerning me is that there have been active pushes to the codeberg repo, last one an hour ago, but no new releases/tags since two months.

And in contrast to iOS there's eg. AutoNotification. So even with some very bad and intrusive apps, like my App tracking me driving and giving discounts if I'm good, that don't allow such fine settings and refuse to work without all notifications on, you can just block specific ones. In my case it's things like status information, reminders etc.

I only use lf in foot to have a preview of a file (image, text, pdf, ssl cert, everything with sixels, cat or the specific command) without opening or searching for that file first. It's faster to just use lf to search for a file instead of opening every single one. Other than that I find using xdg-open, cp, mv, rm etc. is faster compared to using any file manager, probably because I never learnt lf's shortcuts properly. All GUI file managers I know are bound to their DE, eg. dolphin and nautilus, which sucks with a WM.

The worst thing IMO is the apparent lack of custom Rom support. The latest to still support it would be the Edge 30. Using an Edge 20, it's more than enough for me. It took a long time to roll out Android 13, but for that they integrated their (non intrusive and actually useful) apps very well.

Bonus if Alphabet also Buys M$, Bytedance and Disney.
