  • I mean if you go back 300 years, but then if you go back 1000-1300 then most of England & Scotland starts to look pretty German (Anglo-Saxons, Norse), with England getting significant French & Scandinavian (Norman = French Norse) influence after and tenuously Austrian (Celts) before that... The native British people were completely wiped out at least twice before that, so frankly all sorts of European nations could* have a claim if Putin rules applied

  • Anticompetitive practices don't exclusively crush existing competition though? It's even more prevelant in high start up cost industries that the anticompetitive practices are just shutting out competition before they even enter the market.

If you could sell EVs and break even at maybe 15k and someone else is already selling at a loss for 11k, you'd be wasting your time and money even starting R&D on one...

  • You said it in your first line... They're selling them at a loss to try and dominate the market.

Even if the government only think it's only anti-competitive when foreign companies do it, the truth is it's anti-competitive as fuck regardless... I'd much rather have both local and international producers producing things at a reasonable price and fair profit level than losing a bunch of money to dominate the market then taking huge profits later on but you do you I guess.

If it were me I'd also be wanting to know how many slave labourers are getting poisoned by toxic fumes to produce them, as while China is great in some respects, the work environment and culture is undeniably Victorian workhouse level.

  • Qwant actually have their own indexer, but even then I feel like Microsoft can push their own products as they want given you are free to ignore it... It's not like there's no alternative browsers, search engine indices or operating systems, and loads of other products are built off shared technology without it being an issue that it's closed off generally

  • Tomatoes were in Europe way before any "Italies" were ever invented though

When tomatoes came over all they had were the Pope, Spanish (Aragonese)/French vassals and a memory of the Roman Empire

  • Intelligence is just knowing things and being able to process things, so in theory knowing about religion would be intelligence, however in religion knowing the significance* of things is much more important, so it should really be wisdom...

Low intelligence may mean you follow blindly, but ask the average religious person the reasoning for The Great Schism and they'll probably pull a blank. Ask an irreligious trivia expert and they'll probably be able to tell you about how it was a disagreement over some traditions and the powers of the pope and who it should be which resulted in Christianity splitting in two in the 11th century, but it would take wisdom to know why it was significant, and why Catholics/Orthodox have historically disliked each other less than either/Muslims, along with a bunch of other useful contextual information which is lost when regurgitating facts

  • Lol

  • I had to call the electricity company to resolve a fucking clusterfuck of their making the other day (long story short my electricity meter is faulty), and after 3-4 calls I got to someone who said "jesus christ" after I explained my situation and how they'd made it worse trying to resolve it...

She didn't fix it, it's still not fully fixed after a further 4 days including 29 hours without power, but gee did I feel like I was speaking to a fellow human who was trying to help in that conversation above all others I had with them

  • Yeah agreed that while you're more than likely not gonna get sick from it unless you have an allergic reaction of some sort, it's still probably dusty as those things are a nightmare to clean and so not a pleasant lick

  • I mean that situation describes almost any student in higher education, along with people in long term relationships who are yet to move in together - frankly those two cases more than likely make up the majority of people with two homes

  • If you're a germaphobe then surely you should know that 100% salt is enough to yeet literally any microorganism to the back of beyond; in fact anything over 30% is

That lamp is more hygienic than your dinner plate, more than the inside of any food package and infinitely more than your hands even after you've just washed them

  • Ya think?

I'm lucky enough to be reasonably well off, and seeing the price of gas and electricity I've had to cut back elsewhere, take showers at work etc. to keep the same amount of savings, paying mortgage etc.

Imagining not having nearly as much to cut back on, no showers at work, can't cycle to work and more isn't hard, as it's obviously just such a shit situation and yet those in power at Westminster seem completely oblivious to it

  • I'm only getting into semantics because you are - that statement is singular and definite, therefore it can only be taken to have one of two meanings:

    A) a given straight man is selected at the start, and once he is voted out it ends.

    B) it ends once the final straight man is voted out, as at that point he would be the straight man. This can never occur as he would win by being the only one remaining, so there would be no vote for him to vote himself out.

If they're all straight without a single selection at the start, then there is not a definite straight man, and even if there is one selected at the start there's only a 1/12 chance he gets voted out first.
