I mean there's an argument to be made that once the allegations are public, there'll be in investigation regardless, and if you don't want to go through the ordeal of being grilled by probably some of the best lawyers in the world or put your family through finding your body then it makes sense to commit suicide that way and still have a big impact

Wikipedia's job isn't free to be anti- or pro- anything, it's to show facts free from bias, even if you and most other readers agree with that bias.

Of course the facts can clearly show something to be almost objectively evil to anyone capable of understanding them, but it's not for Wikipedia to perform any analysis of those facts - saying "Israel has killed X civilians in attacks which many of their allies claimed were completely avoidable [citation]" in an article featured on the front page is perfectly valid, however a big banner with a Palestinian flag is not as it's a (fair) interpretation of the facts and not simply a presentation of them.

Water, unsweetened tea, unsweetened coffee, milk and countless other non-sweetened or minimally sweetened drinks are way better for you than any sweetened drink though.

"0 calorie" sweetened drinks are bad for you not because of their content but because eating sweet things increases your appetite as a reaction to sweet things being comparatively rare in nature, even if it's not sugar, so it's been proven that you're more likely to overeat and snack between meals (where the snacks are often also unhealthy) following consuming sweet drinks (I can't remember how long the effects stick around for but it's long enough that it'll stretch to your next meal, or make you want a snack before it), regardless of whether that food is sweet or not. Eating more also makes you lethargic so you're less likely to burn the extra calories.

The issue is this can be palmed off by the manufacturer as the fault of the people eating more, when fast food restaurants have anecdotally known this since forever and so include a sweet drink in their meal so that you want a bigger meal that you'll pay more for.

Even if you actively ensure that you're not letting it affect your appetite, for the majority of the general population that is not the case, so in practice they're close enough to being just as bad that it doesn't matter which you have

Except that's only how it works mathematically, not in practice due to human nature. Perceived value of money would be something really interesting to study as there's just so many variables of which wealth is one, but I'm not even sure it's the most important when compared to upbringinging, source of money (do you work for it, even if you're overpaid, vs winning the lottery/being a parasite like selling mineral rights or buying properties and getting a management company you're not involved in to rent them out etc.) and others

and yet they're probably charging the same as full sugar, probably while adding sweeteners to the full sugar version?

I hate to break it to you but sweetened drinks aren't much better for you than sugary ones, but are way cheaper to produce, so this is just coke wanting to save money yet again

I think yellow is actually fine - a lick is 3 seconds of contact maximum and you're not sucking on it or ingesting it...

Lithium's the only one you'll ingest decent quantities of and it's just gonna taste fizzy and soapy with no real lasting damage, stuff like lead you won't even ingest and even if you did it'd probably be fine in such low quantities, even mercury is probably ok to lick if you're careful

That said, with the radioactive ones you need to be careful of what isotope and sample size you're licking, so licking a huge ingot of U235 would probably do some lasting damage just by being near it, but licking a small piece of U238 is more than likely fine so long as it's solid and not dust

There can be stable timelines with time travel - there's actually 3 states:

• Perpetual instability, where the timeline changes each time the time machine is used but never reaches the same state twice
• Perpetual cyclic stability, where people's actions in modifying the timeline lead to it eventually reaching the same state, eg. you go back in time to kill someone who becomes evil and oppresses you but the near death experience leads them capture you, so you can't time travel any more, and to blame your people and start oppressing them, leading to the same actions
• Stability without time travel, which is the default state but incredibly hard to get once time travel is invented as with nobody to stop time travel being invented it would probably get invented again, however parts of a cyclically stable timeline could have nobody having access to time travel, but any actions by time travellers to stop time travel would likely lead to the second rather than third option

I'm not sure they're even that, to me it seems like it's people with so much hatred of their life that they then blame on western culture, which means they much criticise anything the west do and praise anything the enemies or alternatives to the west do, including praising authoritarians and terrorists as they're against the west and so are fighting for the same cause

Except Mali and China's crossing is pure fiction and Polynesia's is plausible but missing a lot of evidence you'd expect to find

Same thing with seceding

It depends on the situation though...

There's voting to secede (East Timor), seceding through civil war (South Sudan, Somaliland, Ireland), sededing through coup (collapse of the Soviet Union), wanting to secede but being oppressed by a regime (Catalonia to an extent, Cabinda, Xinjiang) and a foreign regime deciding part of your territory wants to secede because they want control over it (Abkhazia & South Ossetia being invaded by Russia, same with much of Ukraine, Armenia invading and genociding Artsakh in the 1990s and then Azerbaijan invading and genociding it back recently)

How do you define "standing in their way" with all these and when you've even had places like Malta and Singapore being forced to secede against their will, it's never as clean as "this is what the people want"

That said, recognising Palestine while also very much not simple is clearly the desire of the majority of the people there, but still there are places with equal popular support and implementation of independence that aren't recognised but you're always going to piss someone off I guess

Of course they are, they're scared they're even losing the vote of the "kids these days..." tory core so they're thrashing about like a fish out of water trying desperately to not lose them... There's been stories like this for months now and very little to come from most of them

I just find the saving mechanism frustrating to use compared to vim's as an entry level user, and now as a mid-skilled user I dislike how featureless nano is - when I was first learning how to use the terminal I hated having to edit anything as I was pretty much force-fed nano with no alternative provided, but on finding vim and remembering literally 3 things (:w, :q and i) everything became so much easier, but I definitely do have an extra bitter taste left about not being told about something much easier to use which irked me when I saw someone preaching how amazing nano is

I also really don't get the hate for vim when remembering 3 things gives you as much/more functionality as nano and is a starting point for so much more functionality - intuitive doesn't mean featureless and don't try and pretend nano's shortcuts are the same as 99% of other editors (text or otherwise), in fact they're totally different, making it less intuitive

Nano is just as fiddly as vim and way less powerful when you actually figure out what you're doing though?

That's a human action anyway though... Not a "it's been a while since you opened our app time to drag you back" notification

It's not so much a circlejerk as much as a knowledge that KDE plasma is the most approachable DE with the most polished first experience for the majority of new users

The reason it gets interpreted as Gnome bad is that both Plasma and Gnome both mainly target users who want something that just works out of the box and doesn't have a steep learning curve, however KDE have managed to keep up better with what new users want in recent years while Gnome has fallen into a semi-trap of doing what their current/older users want. That doesn't mean it's a bad distro, frankly it's great for their current users, however it does little for newer users who may not find it as intuitive as other DEs, therefore making it a worse default DE for "off-the-shelf" distros targeting new Linux users.

At the end of the day though, it is about personal choice, and nobody's saying i3 isn't better for powerusers or that LXDE doesn't run faster, but if you have the knowledge that you want to install one of those or the many other DEs available, then you can just find the iso/distro/package with that DE and install it rather than just clicking the all-in-one-guaranteed-to-work-lts download button on the distro's homepage

The syntax is certainly easier than Java

And VisualBasic's syntax is easier than COBOL, but this isn't a competition to make the least offensive heap of putrid garbage, so why does it matter?

Python works just fine for basic scripts, frankly it's amazing for it, but oop and functional programming is so incredibly obviously badly shoehorned in that huge swathes needs scrapping and version 4 releasing

I mean once you get beyond bash-like scripts python is esoteric as fuck, adding oop to what is essentially a shell is a terrible idea

That said, there's plenty of languages with good syntax that is still good when you get into more complex stuff (modern C#, scala, kotlin and more)
