Nah. I respect what MacFarlane is trying to do, but Orville is nowhere as good as TNG or SNW. It echoes TNG in a lot of ways but never rises above it. The writing is more heavy-handed and MacFarlane doesn't have the gravitas or the acting chops to rise to these ambitions.
It was good while the only current Trek we had was Picard and the godawful Discovery, but I think the SNW creators got the Trek mainline back on the tracks.
I think I can say that if the Voyager app didn't exist, I probably would have given up on Lemmy in the early days. Lemmy really started to work for me when I installed Voyager.
I went on a tour of Malaysia with a cheap Chinese tour company once. Food in Malaysia is AMAZING but you wouldn't know it from this tour.
They'd take us to these warehouse-like empty restaurants on the edges of towns and would serve us the worst Chinese food I ever had by a mile. I love Chinese food, but this was just soul-crushingly bad. And because we were basically stuck with staying close to the bus, we had no choice but to eat there.
Two dishes stand out in my mind. One was stir-fried lettuce that had so many block spots it looked like a pointillist work. The other was a mapo tofu that looked so awful, I couldn't help thinking the chef had broken it up by chewing it and blowing it out of his nose.
I was gonna say. I don't think r/all has changed much at all, but having actual quality content on Lemmy is really eye-opening as to what a trash heap r/all is.
I have to admit, when I came here I was hoping this would be a mass migration, but these days I think Lemmy is already great even without the bulk of Reddit's user base joining. Easier to participate in conversions, less trolling, less aggression, fewer bots...
Not saying I don't want Lemmy to grow more, but it's a fantastic place already.
The Western critique of the BRI is that it's debt trap diplomacy, i.e. China loans money for development and hopes the beneficiaries can't repay so they can "own" them in a diplomatic sense, or downright repo some of their critical assets.
That's the criticism that Trump has levied against the BRI, but there are serious objections to this portrayal. Here's one from a reputable Western source:
