  • Even the most subtle burn in bothers me, but grey instead of black doesn't. LED is better than OLED for me.

As soon as there is a technology with the same colours as OLED with absolutely no burn in (and my existing displays get too old), I'll consider it.

  • Due process is the way to prove you're a US citizen and/or not a criminal. Without it, anyone can be arrested and sent to another country to be killed.

They are deporting people without due process.

US citizens have already been deported. US citizens have already been sent to El Salvador prisons with no criminal charges. Due process is not being done.

They could take you next and there is no legal way you could stop them.

If you don't stand up for the people around you, who is going to be left to help when they come for you?

  • Abortion should be mandatory.

People keep arguing over whether abortion should be legal or not, but my opinion is that it should be forced on everyone whether they want it or not. Late term abortions up to 100 years after birth should also be considered for inclusion in this rule.

One of my favourite activities is finding controversial opinions, then taking an opinion so extreme that it makes everyone else look like a centrist.

  • My partner has had to remind me many times that my disabilities are actually disabling. No matter how hard I try, I'll never be able to the same tasks as a neurotypical person.

Sometimes just slowing down and working within your limits can drastically improve your symptoms. I find that my symptoms are at their worst when I'm pushing myself too hard, and can go away almost completely if I've been resting properly for a few weeks. This is fairly rare because I still haven't learnt to actually rest.

I'm also seeking medication to help, but it could take a long time to get anything. I'm also prepared for the possibility that the medication isn't the single solution to all my problems.

I wish you the best in your endeavours. You're not alone.

  • I can find valid results with Kagi 90% of the time compared to about 40% with Google. There are some things I was been looking for using Google for several years without success that turn up as the top result on Kagi.

    It just works.

  • I recommend dual booting Windows and Linux until you're comfortable switching entirely. Sometimes you need to go back for just one task.

Always back up your files before installing a new OS. Data loss is always possible during installation, and more likely if you don't know what you're doing.

The Grub boot manager (included and installed by default with Linux Mint and some other distros) makes it easy to pick which OS to boot each time when turning the computer on.

Check out Lutris for non-Steam Windows games. It uses Wine, but is a lot more user friendly to set up and use.

  • I'm looking everywhere I can. I haven't found any OS that works with my current phone (Nokia G42), and the aren't too many phones that meet my needs (dual Sim, small, headphone jack, repairable, runs open source OS).

I've given up actively searching and I'm mostly browsing Lemmy and hoping to stumble across something useful. Please let me know if you have any more suggestions.

  • I think I have graphics driver issues, but it could just as easily be a failing graphics card without testing. Mint has a great driver manager from Ubuntu, but LMDE didn't seem to have any driver GUI.
The main symptom is about 30 minutes into almost any game the fps drops from 60+ to ~10. Only restarting the game seems to fix it.

I don't remember the other minor issues, so they've either been fixed, or so minor I stopped noticing them.

I think LMDE is good enough to use as a daily driver. The installer is quite nice too.
