  • Online I see this sort of rage bait all the time. In the real world everyone I talk to thinks there’s arseholes and good people in every age group. Stop feeding the media’s narratives. It’s what made reddit shit and it will ruin Lemmy too if we let it. Downvote it, move on. Too many bots and social media entities use it drive traffic and influence the online conversation that eventually ends up influencing the real world.

  • I think it’s more an international thing. There was a thread a while back saying post where you’re from. Way less American dominated here, hence less American conservatism and ‘leftism’ and more balanced global views rather than the excessive america centredness of reddit. Federation helps with that too. No American corporate entity shaping the culture.

  • That’s part of the appeal to the other 7.6 billion of us. It’s an international fediverse rather than a US corporate entity. Kinda like how popular forums used to have a link to other popular forums except you can also get a feed from the linked forums. Much better. Will just take time to grow. Reddit took nearly a decade to reach critical mass.

  • In the early days when it was first created from the Netscape baseit was definitely branded as Mozilla. Source: I’m old enough to have used it then. Check its wiki page. Covers its early days as an app suite which included the browser.

  • I used to be super anti-apple but now buy MacBooks for the longevity. Less ewaste. Over time actually more cost effective. My daily driver is a nearly 9 year old MacBook that I replaced the battery on 2 years ago. Still getting official updates too. My father laid out twice the price of it for a high end XPS machine in 2019 and it died inside 5 years. Apple actually fix manufacturing issues without a huge amount of fuckery like HP/dell. I can’t speak to iPads and iPhones but Macs just last longer so end up being cheaper in the long run.

  • Why did you need the internet for network printing? You’ve been able to print over network for decades without needing the internet. I stopped using printers 15 years ago both at home and at work so had no idea this had happened. In a rare situation where I do need to print I use the work MFP or go to the library and pay 20c a page. Happens once every 2 or 3 years.
