  • Let's say you only get 10% of the value, which is a massive stretch. What's 10% of $10 billion? $1 billion. That is still an absolutely insane amount of wealth.

The point "they don't have as much as you think" is meaningless, because the amount they do have is still exceptional. There's no functional difference past a certain threshold.

  • But these billionaires don’t actually have the amount of money most people believe they have. Functionally, it’s nowhere close.

What do you mean by this?

  • And which country(s) have imposed sanctions that are keeping the people from receiving food from trade? The area is known to be difficult to farm adequate food in. Countries should be supporting these people by sending food, not withholding food and other goods via sanctions.

You can't hurt a people/country willfully, then point to the damage and say that the country is at fault. Food inadequacy is artificially imposed, it is not the fault of the people of that country.

  • I completely agree that insults like this are "pure mud slinging". As I said elsewhere, I know reddit was basically a rage-engine, generating and thriving on rage, but that's not real discussion. That's "engagement" in the most cynical sense. Real engagement is discussion, back and forth, even with (especially with) disagreements.

I just saw a thread where one person's "contribution" was literally nothing other than trying to combine the same 5 words into different insults in response to reasonable comments. There's a difference between ending your evidence-backed reasoned comment with an insult or derogatory remark, and having the entire content of all of your comments be personal attacks or insults.

I'm unsure how I feel about making a rule around such a thing, because the mere presence of insults is not always enough to declare the comment(er) detracting; when the entirety of someone's comment history is just that, then things become more clear-cut.

I don't want an echo chamber. I want to see dissenting opinions. But I want those dissenting opinions to be in good faith, and not backed by aggression. I don't want to see the content of people whose sole intent is to cause outrage and troll.

  • That doesn't make sense. If it was my browser cache it should (a) show my username, and (b) show the same username every time. I did do forced refreshes (without browser cache), as well as used an incognito window (where the same exact behavior happened).

  • Mine's consistently either: showing a random person's username, or showing "Login / Sign Up". I haven't gotten that specific URL to show my username since I posted this.

  • "people died listening to Trump’s suggestion" is undoubtedly true, but are there any documented cases of someone actually injecting bleach, much less that leading to their death?
