  • I'm on lemm.ee. I think I've seen 1 nsfw post. Under configuration there's a checkbox to not see nsfw content. I checked my alt account. The same checkbox is on lemmy.world

  • I wait a few seconds and then reload the page. That usually works. Sometimes I have to unsubscribe, wait 5 seconds, re-subscribe and then reload the page.

  • I'm pretty sure that's the way it works on almost all the apps, and it's a setting on your home instance.

  • Agreed, it does seem to always find a way. Hopefully it takes longer due to the nature of each instance being separate. The recent apoplexy at Threads joining the Fedivervse seems to indicate that many users are aware of the need to not have anything to do with any monied interests beyond server costs.

  • It is, but it, and the mascot that is on many communities and instances, is a reference to the lemming.

  • If lemmy.world is being Ddosed it's not obvious. The site loads quickly for me lemmy.ml isn't loading. The rest of the comment do make a good point that being on multiple instances helps spread the load and makes Lemmy as a whole hard to affect. And having alternate accounts is definitely a good idea

  • As an aside, we need to do away with the idea that corporations are people. We need to remember that they are run by people but are not people themselves.

  • Hello, world. Come in from the cold. This will be a good place. For awhile. And then we’ll make another one.

I hope you're right. I'm betting on the Fediverse, and the fact that it is not corporate owned and can be forked anytime it needs it. I'm hoping that really all it needs to run is servers, moderators and administrators willing to moderate and administer. I'm hoping that the lack of corporate involvement allows it to continue and be a place where we can actually build communities.

  • That sounds more like Gentoo. With Arch, you at least get the foundation with plumbing and electrical run to the site.

  • I thought they did too, but I just tried it and I got the login page. [Edit]: Maybe they just did it for Google and a few other big companies?

  • Fedora. Core 3 or Core 4 according to Wikipedia and the fact that I recognize the names. An acquaintance suggested I try Linux, so I found info on it, didn't really understand what a distro was and settled on Fedora because I had bought O'Reilly Linux Pocket Guide that used that distro.

I switched pretty quickly after that, and used Ubuntu, Debian, then Mepis for awhile. I've run Arch, dual-booted with Windows for several years on the desktop and Debian testing on my remote server

  • I was thinking it might not be a troll up until the line that says the game was played on the Game Boy, but is also played by girls.

  • You can see what instances any given instance is federated or de-federated with by going to/ instances.

So if you want to see what other instances lemm.ee is federated with, you can go to http://lemm.ee/instances.

If you want to see the same thing for Lemmy.world, you can go to http://lemmy.world/instances
