  • More likely, they were saving costs and fired the non-essential janitor who turned out to be totally fucking essential

  • Once, not so long ago, streaming was more convenient than pirating. But, as expected the commercial services went through their Standard Cycle of Enshittification and now we either let ourselves get flogged by 50 competing predatory services or just take the easy way and sail the high seas.

The choice is not that hard. Yarr.

Of course this returns us to the state where the streaming companies who have literally "enshitted their own beds" now turn to legislators and policymakers (who they hated, just couple of weeks ago) to ask them to provide some "law and order" to this unruly mob and to defend the corporations right to put thumbscrews on the population for ever increasing profits.

    And so it goes.

  • Was Lars Ulrich there? Or is he barely surviving scraping together morsels of food while evil people are pirating his music? Poor old Lars.

  • Yeah, that's a shame. Hasbro/WotC isn't the best of companies.

  • It's good that they're not selling to Tencent. But it's a shame they're not selling.

  • I have water leak and fire alarm sensors and a security camera. Fairy low maintenance and I kinda want to know if any of these go off when I'm not home

  • No.
“American Dream,” was built on belief where workplaces are meritocratic environments where workers, regardless of their background, can, on merit and abilities overcome any deprived situation they may find themselves in and rise above.

Just like communism when the Wall fell, I think it's safe to say this ideology, when tried and tested, has been proven a total and complete failure.

  • So hear me out. What if we took $6.9M out of the CEO bonus and dropped the Mozilla AI project?
Maybe that would be enough to hire a maintainer or two for Firefox iOS port?
    Maybe that could work?
I don't know, just an idea. Crazy.

  • I think this has more to do with mergers and acquisitions than game development. When two companies merge certain administrative functions become redundant because the acquiring company already has that function. Doubt they actually fire any devs

  • Ask if they'd like a cup of tea and tell them I'm really sorry we fucked up the world. Then I'd leave them be, to enjoy the 3 hours they can spend here.

  • No, I guess it doesn't connect to any streaming service. I use Google Drive to store my books and just copy whatever I need from there.

  • Smart Audiobook Player

  • My next Windows PC doesn't need any RAM, because I'm not going to need one.

  • Yeah sorry - edited OP and added archive link, so no one needs to hit substack servers.

  • When I was last working in the automotive industry about two decades ago, a lot of effort was being put into protecting BIOS on diagnostic laptops, so that only "authentic" manufacturer diagnostic tools could be used to service the vehicles.

Pretty sure that development has continued.

  • Yeah, that'll most likely disable the car / limit it. They often have anti-tamper detection in critical ECUs as well.
