  • If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it.

    -Lindsey Graham

  • Most cases of fraud on social media this year have stemmed from a user trying to buy clothes, electronics or other goods that had been marketed on Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat, the FTC report reveals. In such instances, a user would order the product, but the item would reportedly never be delivered.

    Erm...so do a chargeback?

Fletcher said more than half of money reported lost due to social media went to investment scammers. These scammers promote themselves as successful investors but are often just trying to trick people into investing in bogus apps or websites by promising huge returns, she said.

That's totally unsurprising. People are way too gullible in thinking they can "make money fast" or whatever.

The FTC report said Americans also often fall for so-called "romance scams" via social media, in which case a stranger sends someone a friend request and soon starts asking for money.

Isn't this one like as old as time? How are people still falling for these?

  • Notorious fraudster employs more fraudsters who say fraud was part of the job. Well color me fucking shocked.

  • I guess for me it doesn't matter. I work 100% from home and drive very, very little. I keep an SUV for hardware store trips and an occasional foray out for lunch (or family vacation). That's still a 2015 Honda Pilot so not exactly new, lol. Wife drives a small Focus and my son has a Mazda3.

Maybe if I was driving hours a day on the regular it would matter. Though honestly I'm not sure it would. It's a method of transportation, not the latest smartphone. I may be in the minority with that.

I will add, not sure it's relevant, that I'm in the percentage that would have no problem purchasing a new car. Depending on the price-point I may even be able to pay cash. Again though, I don't need brand-new vehicles.

  • This is what's so hilarious to me, he's his own worst enemy. It's like with covid, if he had sat back and sold overpriced masks to the rubes while taking advice from those smarter than him he would have fucking SAILED into re-election. Same with the women he defamed (her name is eluding me at the moment). Almost immediately after the trial ended he did it again and she sued again. He just can't shut the fuck up and keep his enormously inflated ego out of the mix.

  • Unlikely. There aren't any shareholders to screw over and it doesn't look like Musk has any desire to sell Twitter at the moment (I refuse to call it X).

  • I've always driven cars until they die...or in the case of my 2007 Accord a my son totals it. 😑 I do as much of my own work as possible too.

I truly don't get the point of getting a new car just to get a new car.

  • I've become cynical at this point, I don't think he sees ANY time behind bars.

  • This was my guess as well but neither the linked source nor any other one I can find explain exactly why he did it.

  • My one and only complaint with the 7 pro is the damn finger print reader. I miss the one on the back from my 5 and if you don't have your thumb RIGHT over the right spot on the screen it's easy to get blinded by the light if you are in a dark room. Outside that, love the phone.

  • Nightly backups to an on-prem NAS. Then an rsync to a second off-site NAS at my folks house.

  • Outside right-wing grifters, considering the gullibility of the right probably MLMs and those "free" hat/watch/whatever that's not actually free and automatically adds you to a monthly subscription. Oh and don't forget the shitty right-wing services like patriot wireless and their I'm sure equally shitty beer ultra right beer.

  • How in the ever living fuck do 17% of the respondents view the supreme court as too liberal?!

  • lol I remember those days. Standing there trying to decide what movie to rent. Good times...

  • Well he seems to go on his rants after midnight so maybe 8 hours?

  • It's a civil case, which means no jail time should he be convicted. It will just be a fine.

That said, it's possible the verbal attacks against those involved lead to...something. I wouldn't hold your breath though.
