I’ve found that the smaller size of Lemmy both gets me to comment more, and gets me to abandon more iffy comments when a single upvote seems more significant here than on certain similar huge websites.
The contrarians are still here in large numbers even given the smaller community sizes. No one can see your account score anyway, I think the factor most affecting my posting is my small voice is much louder here
I’ve abandoned the value of upvotes anyway and just say shit that I find funny. Not nasty stuff, just like purposely missing the point or trolling like I’m stupid or something. It causes no harm and it’s not like I’m missing out on money.
And woe to the lowly commentator who suggests a middle opinion, this sparking the ire of both A and B.
Sees debate in the comments
Wants to add some of my opinion
Realize that my opinion would make me enemy out of both people

No, you have to type the whole post out. Re-read it to bask in the insightfulness, and correct the usage errors and autocorrects. Then decide that you’ve said your peace, and don’t really want some numbnut responding with a poorly thought out, single sentence reply. Delete the text, knowing you had the chance to vent.
Then go find another post and do the same. At 5pm you can then close your browser, look at your desk, and wonder why you didn’t get any work done that day.
The single biggest missing feature of Lemmy is a "disable inbox replies" button
