Biden picks female admiral to lead Navy. She'd be first woman on Joint Chiefs of Staff

President Joe Biden has chosen Adm. Lisa Franchetti to lead the Navy, an unprecedented choice that, if she is confirmed, will make her the first woman to be a Pentagon service chief and the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

I am amazed that we’ve never had a female on the joint chiefs of staff .

- It's 2023 ffs. I too am amazed (and shocked, and appalled) that we've only just now gotten a woman on the joint chiefs of staff.
  Sucks when I can't even be excited cuz I'm just so disappointed it took this long.
  
  She's not there yet. We have to convince Coach to not throw a fit over it first.
- Well the military is about 99% men, and even less women sign up past the first 8 years. It makes unfortunate sense.
this is an important step forward for the fight for equality in killing civilian children overseas and forcefully turning away asylum seekers

- TBF I think having more diversity in military leadership especially could lead to diversity of thought and help improve the US military as a whole, including pushing them towards a less war crime heavy future. I understand your point - I don’t even disagree, really - but I think this is also a genuinely good and newsworthy thing.
  
  The problem is the system that creates this people, not what's in their pants, though. It's not like she's suddenly not going to be part of the military industrial complex cause she's got girl parts.
  And even if that were true, one person being different isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Despite it reading like she was always the obvious top pick you just know some people are going to turn around and say Biden's only doing it because of the historical significance of her being the first woman to hold the spot.
