Because of how terribly things have turned out, I'd like to imagine that if France ended up successfully colonizing what we call Florida today that maybe it, and world history generally, would've been a tiny bit less shitty.

But weirdly enough, the French transferred New Orleans ownership over to Spain so that it wasn’t lost as a spoil of war. The Spanish then governed it for 40 years before it was given back and then promptly sold to the US.
