looking at all my photography gear
Fuck.
All I want is a Lumix S5 and an M42 to Leica L adaptor. That's not expensive. Haha.
But seriously, my undisclosed musical intrument was more expensive than that. No, I don't actually use it. Yes, that's unfortunate.
looking at getting a mirror-less with full frame sensor even though I've never owned a DSLR
I've got a Lumix G9 so I might be a bit biased
But honestly go with the camera body that's right on the edge of your budget
Having a full frame camera is really nice though I've got a Micro 4/3 camera. Basically if you want to adapt lenses having a full frame sensor makes all that easier.
Me getting into gaming: Woo! Lots of fun games on my Xbox with cheap used games!
Me getting into computers: Yeah, this is great! A bit more expensive, but plenty of potential, just gotta keep it in budget!
Me getting into cars: …fuck
Computers: High entry cost, much lower cost afterward if you don't respect copyright law.
copyleft is where it's at
This is the way 😎
Hey, some cool older cars can be had for around 3-5k if you're willing to put $30,000 worth of work into them
That was my childhood.
I wanted to be a musician, but instruments were expensive.
Now I'm a software developer, and depakene killed my rhythm sense and absolute pitch, so best I can do is put together some demo that underrepresents the capabilities of my software synthesizers. (I really need to switch anti-seizure medications, as it also acts as an ADHD worsener, a sleep worsener (melatonin does negate it for the most part, except for the harder wake-up times), and an anti-psychiatry argument (it's also a mood stabilizer, which I don't need), but I don't have money for private doctors, public healthcare in our country only exists as a last resort and a show case)
I got slammed with ADHD, autism, and genius... I have more ideas than I can count, plan them out in detail, then get distracted by my next curiosity and shelve the last one with the rest of them.
Bonus points, I got the expensive hobbies one too, so I have a tackle box full of chainmail rings, a bunch of Raspberry Pi Nanos, a full-sized Raspberry Pi with a bunch of sensors and addressed LED strands, and TB of hard drive space chewed up by half finished projects.
Just reading that reminded me of a half-dozen projects that I haven't touched beyond buying the parts for. And another bunch that are mostly working, but could really use some finishing touches so they aren't as jank, but they made it to the barely functional stage, so that's where they'll probably stay until they fail enough to get any of my attention.
Computer, video games and furry. The first two are affordable at least. Ain't never gonna be able to get a fur suit 😩
me who spent $3k on upgrading my pc this year:
+1
i feel ya, in the end money just trumps everything
But making money is such a fkin pain
Do what I do with my expensive hobbies. Learn how to make your own fursuit. Start with simple sewing and work your way up. Once you get there you can make other fursuits for $
I got both. Turns out the pure natural sciences has a shitty job market. My degree can't even pay for itself let alone my expensive hobby.
My hobbies are scuba, underwater photography, woodworking, and guns.
I'm basically a war criminal as far as my wallet is concerned.
Cries in swordsmithing and longsword training
I got 2 out of the 3, but science doesn't pay for expensive hobbies.
Overpriced science hobby. 😢
I fold origami cranes from less than 1x1 cm paper that I cut myself. I'm quite good on terms of price per hour
Photography (Sony A7IV), 3d printing (Bamboo labs), motorcycles(BMW S1kRR, the best gears ATGAT), computers and networking(custom-built pfsense and the entire house is wired on 10Gbe and some 2.5Gbe), Home automation (home assistant), security cameras(4k and 8k cameras on frigate w/google coral). The list goes on and on. The good thing is I already have the best of most of my hobbies and "remembering" my old passion, I don't have to spend too much more to get back in.
I love comics and Lego. They are both so PRICEY
warhambler make serotonin yay
... both is good
Looks at 35 year old 4x4 parked in my driveway
I don't need to be called out like this.
Sometimes it's a two-for-one deal!
life is just unfair af, it seems like it doesn't matter if what issue anyone is struggling with, all that matter is output
And it takes forever for me to generate the ouput that others just generate so easily and so fast
Video games and electronic DIY stuff... And what really pisses me off is that in the current age, there are so many neat parts to use but RadioShack doesn't exist anymore! 😬
Gunplas. And I need the math god autism to buy overpriced plastic.
Motorcycles, pc gaming, dj'ing, and burning man, oh my!

mechanical keyboards
Thank fuck vintage boards are cheaper than new. Those $1000 plus topre things scare me. I love my $20 recycling center alps board.
Not anymore. During my hunt for BTC keyboards, I hiked their price, especially the less common 5140 keyboards.

Add some gunpowder in the keys... for that extra clacky clack
as a bonus if you add too much it blows off your finger
i was fine with being a software dev but nooooooo i just HAD to get in to FPV
Nothing quite like flying
I don't know what FPV means, but my brain is reading it as 'feline papilloma virus,' so I'm choosing to believe that it's a thing and it's a special interest of yours and that you're just randomly mentioning it...and also randomly mentioning the additionally unrelated fact that you're a software dev.
Mhm, yes. This makes sense.
