I think Taskmaster was the wrong choice for getting killed at the start and the writer’s plan for her made sense and would have helped other characters’ arcs as well. I think it would have helped the movie’s theme more if the mercenary killed first had been some other returning character who was a true villain rather than just misunderstood or abused and who wasn’t particularly a fan favorite; Justin Hammer is the first one to come to mind, but it wouldn’t make sense for him to be a mercenary for Val. I think Taskmaster surviving also would have helped to diversify the powersets instead of every Thunderbolt except Ghost just having Captain America and/or Black Widow powers.
