Working on yourself is hard in the 21st century. Not only do you have to work to improve yourself but you have to do it at a rate faster than the world going to shit around you.

And you have to do it within the narrow time and energy constraints created by needing to work to stay alive.
That has always been the case. I'd even say it got easier in the last decades, in general. That does not mean people are no longer struggling, of course.
Definitely has always been the case, but having a hard time agreeing that it's gotten easier in the past decade (at least in the US).
Housing prices higher, inflation, grocery prices rising, no wage growth. All with seemingly less community and family cohesion.
