Whatever Ubisoft does gamers will get mad... I don't even play their games but the bashing is kind of ridiculous at that point. Just play something else, they're almost dead anyway, you won.
They worked hard to build that reputation year after year.
I dont want to get into this but, yeah, it's just a soul-less capitalist business like 99% of other studios. The management sucks, but I know a lot of people that worked there over the years (most lost their jobs in past 4-5 years), and they are just developers passionate about making games. I know some are deeply affected by all the hate they got online.
Many people were or are fans of franchises made my Ubisoft. They're mad to see these IPs they enjoyed being ruined, which is fair.
How to increase playtimes and artificially lengthen the story by getting players lost AF in one easy step.
In other words:
"We ran out of time to add them and the investors want the game out NOW."
AC maps are so incredibly empty as is and collectibles went from something kinda fun to hunt for to being the most insufferable thing they do that I feel this will only make it worse.
And yes I did enjoy hunting all 400 flags from the first game and the feathers in the 2nd.
I'll attempt to play this once it's on sale for $20 in 6 months.

Really? There were way too many and they weren't really in interesting places. I would much prefer if they had <50 and put them in cool places, but I picked up a bunch just by following normal story progression.
Was that the promess they made on ghost recon breakpoint that ended with broken quests? 😏

When Nintendo does this "genius game design", when Ubi does it, well, the coment section above. We've lost the plot. If the game is good it should be lauded, if it's bad, it should fail. Regardless of who are the main characters...
The difference is that Nintendo tends to do a pretty good job with it, whereas Ubisoft... doesn't. I'm guessing the problem is largely with management and timelines, since Nintendo seems to wait until the game is ready whereas other AAA just ship whatever is ready by the deadline.
Nintendo caters to a captive audience of children of all ages that have exactly 0 critical thinking. More than half of Nintendo's releases of the past decade were shovelware leveraging the fanbase for their characters, like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. It's the pepsi man equivalent of the modern era. For every masterpiece, there are two or three shovelware games with low production cost.
