The first congestion charge scheme for vehicles in the US has come into effect in New York.
Car drivers will pay up to $9 (£7) a day, with varying rates for other vehicles.

- Best I can do is executing random people in the subway station
A judge denied an eleventh-hour effort Friday by neighbouring New Jersey state officials to block the scheme on grounds of its environmental impact on adjoining areas.
I’d sure love to see what the hell they think is gunna happen there.
- Driving into NYC from NJ sucks already. I try to never do it. Also the toll is already like $15 so what is a few more dollars? I don't know why anyone would want to drive in NYC.

  There was already a congestion charge, you just pay for it with your time. Now people who have the money get it easier to drive around.

I hope they thought to put in exceptions for at least disabled people and stuff. Otherwise this is just another case of "poor people tax" where rich people dont care and poor people are completely fucked because of it. Probably should be wealth/wage adjusted to make any sense. I wanna see billionaires paying 10k+ everytime they wanna drive through there.
- Of course there's a disability exception. And the idea that it's a tax on the poor is just asinine. Who the $@#% drives into Manhattan?
  
  Rich assholes who want to experience the city while live in a suburban homes. They want the best of both worlds and they want the taxpayers to subsidize their lifestyle.
- If this charge is then used to fund mass transit then it is win-win

- travel times during rush hour on some routes have more than halved, i'd think that's a pretty nice thing for the few disabled people who rely on their car to get around.
