So glad I never married my ex. They proposed just after HS, and I purchased the ring they picked out. $35 bucks.

I burned it along with the lovebomb letters and keepsakes they'd given me, and threw it all in the trash, after we broke up.

Now I live in an apartment, with my partner and cat. We drink and go out, we stay in and chill together. He hasn't forced me into a shape to fit him. It's liberating to find a person who gives you permission to be yourself, unapologetically. I don't need a partner, but I found who I am because they encouraged me to do so.

Just a little appreciation of the way my life changed.

Now to pawn off the el cheapo gold and diamond necklace my ex gave me lol

How did you meet your partner?
- I was an operations/billing consultant, 6 years in at an old job, and he was a temp in the call centre (where I had initially started). The works Xmas party was coming up, and because we (call centre, credit/payment plans, and billing/backend) were a small team, we didn't feel it was fair to exclude the temps from the Xmas party. So we successfully lobbied to have them invited too, it was some ritzy expensive place near docklands. Anyway, my partner (obvs not at the time) and I hit it off that night and I spent the night at his place 👀😅
  Had to go home the next day to a very angry ex, as she was still living with me while her parents set up their bungalow for her 😂😂😂😂 once she moved out in the new year (2019), that temp needed a pkace to stay as his share house fell through. He never left. He was meant to go back to Perth and then onto Canada for a job there. But yeah, what was a temporary stay with a FWB has turned into a 5 year relationship hahahaha now we have a cat so I guess we're serious LOL

one thing I don't understand, it just doesn't make sense, these people choose us for all our traits and personality and what we do, yet they try to crush that and stop us from doing those things
- Ikr. In the case of my ex, I think they were always MTF trans, and before they realised, they took me and tried to force me into what they wanted to be themselves. Besides the actual sexual crimes they commited against me, I think that was theit reason for trying to make me more "feminine". Their reason was they were helping me find my "girlhood" after my mum forced me to dress like a boy when I was a teen so men didn't stare at me lol.
  One extreme to another gosh. Childhood trauma can really set up some nasty adult relationships. I've found a happy medium now dw my wardrobe has lovely sundresses, skirts, pants, and shirts haha

bro sent an email to ol' boy/girl last night. Basically a rant.. i'll write a list:

Unfair that they can't force room changes.
SIL is pregnant so they want an extra room for them when they visit (which is for a day or two a year).
It's my fault they don't visit because I told them to fuck off when they tried to change sleeping arrangements last xmas.
Family doesn't respect the fact SIL is pregnant (ol' boy who is in a related field hooked them with IVF and paid for it).
Family doesn't respect their marriage (ol' boy paid for their wedding)
That it 'hurts' they aren't getting their way (guilt trip about how bro would like to see them more but won't because they aren't bending to them).
Because I'm not married they get to choose shit.

I predicted that they'd try and guilt the p's into changing shit just for them and blame me. Don't really know why I'm caught up in this.

But why he sent that to the ol' girl is fucked. In early Jan she's about to find out if she's going to be totally blind. We're all stressing about that and there's bro pulling shit like this. She's stressed enough.

Woo Hoo, I am finally splinter free!

I think once the anasthetic wears off it is going to really hurt - the splinter turned out to be over 1cm long and as thick as a matchstick. No wonder it would not come out! I've got another box of antibiotics and an extra dressing, hopefully that will be the last of it.

Just casually browsing here from the Northern hemisphere, I've never been to Australia. Enjoy the warm summer weather, I just had to deal with frozen car windows.
To the point: What the hell is a goon bag and where do I get one? A pina colada goon bag sounds absolutely delicious.
- Goon bag = box wine. An inflatable foil sack that makes a handy pillow if you drink the whole thing and retain enough dexterity to blow it up. 😺
- A goon bag is box wine, generally speaking, very cheap and easy. So you get a box of wine, and in the box is a bag of the wine itself. A goon bag is that bag of wine. A pina colada goon bag, is the same but instead of wine, it's a premixed pina colada 😂 I buy it from Aldi when they have them, they also have a Mojito one I want to try.
  During house parties, the goon bag gets pegged to the washing line (usually a hills hoist), and everyone can get some from there 😂 it's very Aussie to have a goon bag pegged to the hills hoist for house parties, or at least it was when I was a teen in the 2000s.
- As someone who grew up in the northern hemisphere, it's weird it being so hot this time of year even after a decade of living here I can't get used to it. So enjoy your frozen windows!

I decided to ask my kids, "hey, someone in melb Aussie zone has mentioned that they want to take their kids to see the Wallace and grommit movie for their first cinema experience ever.. whaddaya reckon?" Their responses were "Oh yeah I reckon they'll love it. There's heaps of plot twists and cute characters and some cool references" (from 12yo Elder, who felt a little anxious about the cinema itself and wanted to leave halfway through but I convinced him to stay and he was glad he did. He gets anxiety so it's a gentle pushing and toughening of his boundaries at this stage). Miniest said, "that's a great idea, it's easy and good, probably the most perfect thing I've seen in a cinema." (From 10yo Warrior Princess child). My kids are a bit kooky (they are mine lol), YMMV, but I thought their reviews might be of interest.
- That's good to hear. The boys are 2 so they won't follow along too much but at a runtime of 80 minutes they may not get tired of things too quickly.
  And it feels like a good movie to say was their first. The big kids' movie of the moment is Sonic 3, and whilst Paddington 3 comes out tomorrow as well, it might be a bit much for the boys too

Pest control man came. He couldn't find it unfortunately. He hung up odour absorbent bags, according to the packaging it "doesn't just make odours", it "eliminates them!". Seems a bit ambitious to me. But fingers crossed it works

He said there's definite signs of both mice and rats up there. Droppings and insulation that had been lifted up where they've probably burrowed in to nest. He also said there's a massive hole up there which is where they'd be getting in. Apparently it's so large he didn't even need to use his torch. That's promising, isn't it?

Not a possum which is good. That means the smell should go away in a week or two. But not great he couldn't find it and suspects there are more. And that there's a gigantic hole in the roof

My daughter's friend got a new puppy and there was a name off. I put my bid in. Anyway it came 2nd. Arlo is his name but I refuse to except defeat. Conversation goes like this:

Happy Early New Year. The kids lost interest in the ABC NYE show, which we all used to love. They had proper kids entertainment during the early fireworks (think Bluey and other popular performers doing songs kids like) but they've foregone that in recent years in favour of more adult indigenous awareness type artists. I get the need to show awareness of the issues facing indigenous people, but maybe not during the kids part of the show?

Anyway, I love you guys and hope 2025 is a better one for all of us.

Being a clutz has paid off. Yesterday I went to an all you can eat buffet with some friends. The food was not very good. If you left any food, they would weigh it and charge you an amount based on that.

I grabbed my plate and somehow, I just lost my grip and it bounced against the side of the table. The really shit cuts of meat that were close to inedible fell on the floor.

They didn't make me eat them off the floor thankfully.

Is it too late for coffee?

My dad told me about his coffee drinking habits. He drinks one upon waking. Then one at 11am at work. Then at lunch time. Then in the evening. We think he might also have ADHD.

Right now he's standing on the roof blowing the gutters, with a fleece jacket on, probably to avoid getting sunburnt. This man has never worn sunscreen in his life. Yesterday he painted the fence. Last week, he polished the garage door (who polishes their garage door?!). He can't take a break and do nothing. Absolute madman. Must be the coffee.

I need your dad to come to my place and do all my house maintenance chores. I didn’t even know garage doors could be polished, sounds classy.
I’m about to make another coffee if that’s of any l help.
When I’m working I’m usually having 3 or 4 coffees a day but they’re taken very early.
Edit: to balance it out I’m sitting down with animal crossing.

My 2c: if you're staying up til midnight or later, go for that coffee!
Caffeine doesn't have too noticeable of an effect of me, though, so I am biased. I suspect it probably does something subconsciously that I don't realise, but as far as conscious effects go, sometimes I'll feel a little more awake for 5 or 10 minutes max. But it feels akin to skulling some water, eating a banana, going outside into the sunshine and saying "I'm awake now!"
Cue: "I'm a social (coffee) drinker. I can quit anytime I want!". Seriously though, I usually only drink coffee cause I like the taste and it's what everyone else does. I don't even have coffee in my new house, I basically only get cafe coffee, and usually only once every week or two, and mostly as a social thing
I wish coffee made me that productive!
I used to down about 5 or 6 a day before the adhd medication.
Plus red bulls.
My hands used to shake, but oddly enough I was incredibly calm...

On a packed tram home, shoulder to shoulder, person across (approx 25f) from me just unwrapped a hungry jacks type burger and started chomping away. It smells a lot (normal burger smell). This is pretty strange and poor form right??

Seems ok. Some examples of poor form might be eating a burger while:

While using a public toilet
While getting a massage at the day spa

Very poor form. Eating on public transport (except in a properly appointed dining car) is VERBOTEN for a lady. Yes, it's the smell and and difficulty on disposing of the rubbish plus handwashing etc. Gross too from a microbiology perspective.
Was on a tram last year where a girl sitting alone in the first seat behind the driver (no.11 tram) was chomping on KFC. When she'd finished all she was going to eat, she dropped the bones & rubbish in the bag and then tossed it over her head behind her without looking. Hit 3 people before making it to the floor. If looks could kill then I'm still surprised she made it off the tram alive.

I’m disappointed in my cordless stick vac. It seemed to work well at first and I liked that it was relatively quiet but it doesn’t pick up anything… or maybe it just struggles with larger particles like tracked paper cat litter pellets. But that’s what I got it for!

The Big W corded stick was literally half the cost, crevice tool is broken and the thing is kind of falling apart in half but still it puts the fancier model to shame. Sucks large stuff up no problem.

Unfortunately it’s incredibly loud, requiring me to wear ear protection and scares the cat. So it’s not easy to vacuum

Um, have you washed the filter? Not just emptied the bag - the filter screen needs to be rinsed and dried too. Also the rollers might be full up with floof and need to be combed free. Failing that, there might be blockage in the tube that connects the bag to the business end - poking with a chopstick from the underside might help a bit.
- I should try that. It was much weaker from the start and there doesn’t seem to be a blockage but I haven’t washed the filter yet
You need to regularly clean the filters on these. I use a paint brush to get a good clean on both the hepa filter and the foam like cover.

I need a new vac, so I won't be getting the Kmart one lol. I have a hand-me-down phat-ass Dyson, but the bucket clip is broken, so I have to hold the bottom until it's over a trash bag to empty it. I think half the apartments dust particles make it up my nose each time lol. I just wish I could fix the bucket because I like the Dyson, I'm very grateful I was given it, even though it was used for years beforehand.
