What would you do if dark empaths are confirmed to be real?
Discovered in 2021, they’re the most cunning of the dark triads as they have the cognitive empathy that narcissists and psychopaths lack and this makes them the most manipulative and destructive individuals you could meet.
I thought this falls under the general umbrella of "narcissist"? Some narcissists are good at reading other people's emotions in order to manipulate them.

Limited cognitive empathy is teachable in many cases. It's not so rare.
I mean, I've been able to live my life so far without concerning myself with such things so I'd probably keep doing whatever the hell I'm currently doing.
If something was discovered in 2021, wouldn't it be confirmed to exist?
I should stress I do not believe in the concept in the way so many others conceptualize it. You slap a label like "dark triad" on a situation and suddenly the expectations go from "remember the human" to "classic Bond villain". "Good" and "evil" are alignments as opposed to inclinations. And your limits can only influence how you walk the path to the destiny you choose. So if this was all "confirmed", it would have no bearing on me. I know many people diagnosed under the dark triad system and most of them fight to be good people in their own way.
I thought in general psychopaths have cognitive empathy, what they lack is affective empathy.
Send them thoughts and prayers. Or thots and playas. Depends on my mood..
I am just an armchair expert, but aren't "dark empaths" already real? For example individuals with narcissistic personality disorder don't necessarily lack empathy. Also manipulation "benefits" greatly from being empathic.
As an empath I did feel that someone with the same skill but with nefarious/selfish intentions could be quite destructive on society so I'm not surprised about this.

We are like absolute polar opposites, she and I. I'm particularly susceptible to this trait. Loyalty is my main defense. I'm quick to trust anyone, but give me any reason to doubt and I will always keep you at a distance.

Maybe the confusion is in things called empathy. One of them autistic people lack, another of them psychopaths and (true, as opposed to pseudo-narcissism one can find among autistic people) narcissists lack.
What you describe seems to be psychopaths. Or you mean some kind of people able to fully feel what psychopaths can't, but turn it off as needed? I dunno.
Autistic people don’t lack empathy. I learned that as a kid too and it was a real barrier to getting diagnosed, because there are few qualities I more obviously possess than empathy.
Autistic people and allistic people use different signals to show their emotional state, so it’s easier for autistic people to interpret the emotions of fellow autistic people (and vice versa).

There's empathy like "theory of mind" to understand others, and there's empathy like "compassion". It's not hard to see that these are completely different things.
Autistic people lack cognitive empathy, which is the ability to read minds to see what other people are thinking.
