I. Am. Done.
With work for the year. Out of office on, notifications off. Yeeeahhh. Now to clean up and get packed for a wee getaway.
I am thinking of deleting all social apps for a few weeks. I suspect I will keep jerboa but going to try to have less screen time for a bit. If I don't catch has then have a good one 🍻🍻🍻
Congrats!!!!!!!
I'll be thinking of you while I kill time tomorrow lol
Merry Christmas oldgreeeg 🍺🍺🍺
Enjoy your well-deserved break, especially from the screens!! Can definitely feel the holiday vibes setting in town, less traffic, looks like a couple of neighbours have already left.
Enjoy! You've earned a relaxing vacation! 🍻
Enjoy your time off. 🍻
Jealous! Two days left and then I am also free until Jan 2.
ENJOY!! 🍻
I'm back from Shelbyville guys. I have hours and hours and hours worth of slides that I must show youse.
A professional photographer, Father would torture us with never ending carousels of slides. The click clack sound and the small heat extraction fan go whirring. The dust particles gently floating in front of the lamp light.
There are names for people who do that.
So many interesting pics of trees and mountains. I think the kid took pics of every single item in Larnach castle so grab a drink and strap yourselves in it might be a long night.
🍻
Welcome home!!
Thanks mate.
Good to have you back:)
Thanks. It's good to be back :)
Ok. Im turning up for my morning meeting at 9:30am, hanging around for an hour or two then sneaking back home.
Noice!
I have nothing to do lol I can watch YouTube at home instead.
🤣🤣🤣
Oh I do hope this trend makes it to Oz.
Also, I'm not gonna make it to midnight tonight. Would someone else mind doing the thread please? I'll be back in action tomorrow night ♥️
No problem. Someone will step up.
Since I won't be awake, I can hardly blame anybody else for posting it early if that's easier for whoever wants it
Buying an eGift Card for Christmas:
Nath: 'Hey Woolies, I wish to purchase a gift card on your site, but want to delay the gift until Christmas morning. Can this be done?'
Woolies: 'Of course not. If you buy a gift card at 2am, we send a text message to your recipient at 2am. They clearly want this gift right now!'
I'm not going crazy, right? It's a super obvious thing when buying a gift card that the person buying the gift would want to specify a delivery date/time as well as a recipient yeah? I told my work colleague and he reckons I'm an edge case. Most customers would want the gift sent immediately. Even if I wanted it same-day, I'd want the option to send it during waking hours.
Nah agreed with you. Did a click and collect from Dans for Friday. They sent the text to the person on Wednesday that their delivery was
If you're bored try chatting with their online support as a side task and raise this as an issue. They'll stay typing away as long as you keep talking.
My most recent one was asking them to disable 2FA on my woolies account because it doesn't keep my devices logged in. I mean NetBank doesn't have 2FA yet I need my mobile any time either one of us logs in to woolies? Like I really don't care if someone can see that I cook too many curries at my address. Support person spent about 45 mins with me (I gave them positive feedback, but no they can't fix my account's 2FA everytime or remove 2FA altogether).
You might get them to raise a feature request for you?
Failing that you could script it to buy the gift card at the time you want, maybe even sell that as a service to other users?
The 2FA on the Oporto app is obscene. You're logged out every time you launch it, need to enter a text message code to log back in, you get a text and email saying you logged in. Bro I was checking for cheap chicken strips and chips, not accessing the nuclear codes.
Failing that you could script it to buy the gift card at the time you want, maybe even sell that as a service to other users?
Alas, the promotion I was making use of ends on Dec 20. So that method won't work. It's a good idea, though.
Not sure how such a site would handle payments for the gift cards, though? I sure wouldn't want to be collecting credit card details and passing them through to Woolies via some API. Any API they have (if they have one) is unlikely to accept payments. It sounds like it'd be less work to make a competing egift card site.
I’m with you on this one - have bought makeup gift cards before and they only had the option of sending when you buy them, too. Very annoying!
Geelong trip was interesting.
I am not going to make such a trip to see the husband's cousins again. I invited them to the gallery and the cafe there, my treat. It's a small place in lovely environs.
The train was cool , fast and efficient.
I meet up and they said there is no parking anyway so let's go to el cheapo shopping mall instead. Even with a denim jacket on I felt over dressed and out of place.
I gave the lovely b'day gift , which was the reason behind the visit. She loved it all.
We had sandwiches at the mall , they paid for themselves, they complained about the price even tho it was super cheap.
After some shopping they took me back to the train station. 🫥
I walked to gallery and gardens, which were beautiful.
Those lions, there are a pair, are pretty big and grand and like the lions you see at many of the famous libraries and galleries around the world.
The painting really interested me, it's from the mid 1850s, of a meeting between two men going to the gold fields and a small clan of Aborigines. The Aborigines are wearing possum cloaks with painted markings. They are carrying bags with all their tools and weapons.
The soil is so red, which is just like it is around Geelong, not much grass and the trees are sparse. There are black boy grass trees, which used to be common in western Vic. You can see the Youyangs in the background.
The sculpture is of Ruth, a biblical character.
V/Line trains are so comfy and quiet.
Geelong Botanical Gardens are a must to see.
I’ll have to check the gallery out. I’m often down that way, but often just riding past.
Nice pics! Ruth is real pretty
She's lovely. By her clothes this must be her as a new Jewess after leaving paganism.
The director told me today she's resigning, and that there's a wave of resignations coming from everyone else.
It was so good until the new owners took over.
Been talking to the people who have been here for ages. They're absolutely shattered. It was apparently amazing before.
Bad timing I guess.
Let's hope you can line something up and be one of the people leaving for greener pastures as well
Probably have to wait till mid feb
Made it to the bellarine.
Chillos growing quickly which is good. Hoping for dem mini-jungle vibes soon. Not sure why the top right ones (thai) are happier than the rest, hope they're not crosses. Habs at the front seem uniform-ish.
Nearly slapped a pixel out of a womans hand on the train today. I often drive out catch the vline in cause its a shit tone more comfortable, and its easy to nap (as a ton of people do). Got woken up by a lady talking/half shouting down the phone about some project plan, but she ends the call with "sorry, your breaking up! I'll see you in 15 minutes anyway". Mother fucker are you serious?! have SOME consideration. even if people around you werent asleep! your gonna see them in 15 minutes anyway.
Im so desperate for Friday to get here and to finally have some days off!! Have been doing 60-65 hour weeks at work for over a month now and on the weekends ive been up ladders installing picture rails and setting up all sorts of stuff for the photography business we are starting for my partner. So to say im exhausted would not even scratch the surface haha and i really need to get back to my hobbies and proper routine before my mental health suffers immensely!!
Hey man, good to see you around, been wondering what you were up to - sounds insanely hectic! Definitely bring on that break, I hope it's a decent amount of time so you can recover and get back on track.
Thanks :)
The break wasnt long enough but work is less crazy and im getting stuck into organising everything i need to start Adventure Racing training so im feeling a bit refreshed and excited :)
Good luck with the photography start-up! Looking forward to hearing you getting back into your hobbies!
Thanks :) Going to pick up an amazing mountain bike on the weekend to start training for Adventure racing this year :)
yay, day trip by train to Geelong today. I'm wearing comfy clothes, have books to read but do not have Ted in a catpack.
decisions, cardigan or denim jacket 🤔 crocodile or leopard earrings 🤔
Ooh I'm heading down on the train as well. Might bump into you.
Look out for the one wearing shoes it could be me!
Edit: and if you cave in and get a potato cake from the kiosk at geelong station, they're about a 3/10. No amount of salt will push it over that.
shoes you say 🤔a pointed cat wearing shoes
I vote leopard & denim
okay then 🐆 👍
Seconded. It's a classic look!
As in the Kylie leopard dress/ heels, then like the robin sparkles denim jacket over the top?
Good swim.
Dune warning is misleading. that is not someone falling to their demise but rather someone having a good time
That is someone taking a shortcut.
wheeee!
Looks like I'm going to get this job. I put in for the sorts of roles I want and never get anywhere, then recruiters contact me for roles like this and I just smash the interviews.
This one just might work out. Maybe it will be the good job in the area I've been trying to get away from
🤞
Fingers crossed mate!
I’ve escaped work and I’m home already!
Yay
It has been about 5 months since I've had a night of sleep where it haven't woken up at least twice.
I would kill for a full night's sleep.
did you also get a toddler?
No lol Just regular insomnia.
Take this with a grain of alt because sleeping is my superpower usually, but lately I've been running one of those 8 hour relax loops on youtube (mindAmend is the channel I'm using most - IDK about the actual life changes benefits of isochronic tones and the rest but I find his stuff restful) and when I wake up, I find my mind latches on the noise goes, ah yeah that's that music and just settles back down.
I'll give that a go, cheers :)
The self confidence after a haircut is like a drug. Only lasts like two days though. Hmmmm that gives me an idea. Three haircuts a week? Chase that dragon?
My problem is it looks great for like 2-3 weeks but then you need a trim around then keep it looking good, but its not really long enough to justify a proper cut and the 35 bucks or whatever it is that they charge us.
Be like those old ladies who don't wash their own hair, they go to the salon three times a week for a blow dry and a gossip.
OK new scopes booked in on Monday. I am a glutton for punishment and ended up asking for a slightly more thorough cleaning procedure because I was a bit dubious about the results the first time, effectively doubling the amount of slop I have to drink. Merry Christmas to me!
At least you'll be empty for a Christmas refill!
I might have to make some Christmas plans just to take advantage of it, haha.
laater guys, love you all 😘
Have a fun day!!
So freaking grateful I have a day off tomorrow. I'm cooked, I don't think I'll do much at uni, but I will catch up on organising token gifts and life admin nonsense. Working out what to take for Xmas lunch next Wednesday that I can carry on the train to the 'Rat (I've decided I'm not driving - save energy and petrol $). It'll be a mostly Sri Lankan style thing, I could do a simple curry or two but I'm conscious of not having the whole v/line carriage smell of it.
A well sealed cooler bag should contain any aromas. Especially if the items are cold.
Doing some late night work as I caught up with a friend this morning which railroaded my day. Ughh people coming out of the woodwork with new jobs for me to do the week before Christmas. All of which can wait until the new year. I said to myself this week I will only be finishing up projects on the go, and I intend to stick to that.
"Yeah I felt horrible at 3am and have been sick for days, but I feel well enough to come in for the Christmas lunch" are you fucking kidding me?! Jesus people STAY HOME!
You get a Christmas flu! You get a Christmas flu! Everyone gets a Christmas flu!!
Joke's on them, I didn't go to a single Christmas function this year :D
Me right now, actual footage from the office...
Not a good idea to doxx urself 😜
Shit :D
oh dear
the trick is to lean forward over your desk, forearms on desk , hands on keyboard or holding a pen. Practice snoozing sitting up like this and no one will be wiser.
I need those glasses with the eyes painted on for when the boss walks in.
accurate!
There's no work for me to do. Yet i have to go to the office tomorrow and literally sit around doing nothing.
Ah well. YouTube it is.
YouTube in the miniplayer on your least visible screen with something important on the main screen. At most people will think you're following a tutorial
Pure gold! I was legit going to take my own laptop in lol
Can you say that you started smoking again and just be outside most of the day?
I downloaded Thunderbird and set my emails up on it. For some reason it makes me feel 10,000 years old using an email client. But it's great for gmail on your phone as it gets rid of the ads
You're making me nostalgic for Outlook 2000 on a desktop.
Why couldn't they have adopted a if it ain't broke don't fix it attitude?..
I really really hate the outlook and mail apps on windows. I'm neutral on mail clients in general. Personally, I'm used to PWAs so do everything from my browser or the first party mobile app, but I completely get why people like mail clients
Any Microsoft-owned/created/run mail clients released or redesigned in the last decade or so is always clunky for me. Laggy, clunky, unintuitive, random features vanish, etc etc
Well, they didn't fix the render engine for Outlook and it became the worst platform to build emails for.
I'm thinking a client would be good for someone like the MIL. She needs to have a couple of email addresses and she always forgets the passwords. A client like Thunderbird could put them all in one place
Last week while going through customs my backpack got flagged. Off it goes behind the perspex. Gets to the end. Officer looks at the X-ray. Gives the ok.
This morning, same thing happens. Off goes my very full but underweight bag. Not so nervous this time. I met back up with it at the end but this time he decides to rifle through my bag to find the alleged culprit. I am now curious. My ziplock bag with moisturisers and sunscreens. At first he tries to read them, then he opens the bag up and dives in. Comments such as: "Sometimes these are 125ml, oooo nice moisturiser and lovely".
I was half expecting him to try some on.
Watch none went missing. lol
😂 Nah I was standing there. His hand may have brushed passed my dirty smalls though. Lol
When I was flying back from Adelaide for the first time (first time on a plane, back in 2022), when I went through security, they told me that the area around my knee and back of neck (where my hoodie was bunched up) set off their sensor and I needed to go to the man on the other side so he could back of hand my knee. I should point out I was in above the knee shorts 😂
By the way, my Fitbit has been pinging off that I earned new Zealand (apparently I've done 1,593 km while wearing it) and I thought of you
We had to lift our pants to show our socks (presumably for flora). It's amazing what we do when caught in the headlights.
By the way, my Fitbit has been pinging off that I earned new Zealand (apparently I’ve done 1,593 km while wearing it) and I thought of you
💜💜💜
I once got asked to step to the side for check because something was detected in one of my pockets. Tissues. It was tissues. They let me keep them.
Oopsie afternoon nap. Not like I was going to do much work anyway....
Finally signed up for flybuys. If I’m spending the money on groceries anyway I might as well get a free kitchen knife or Bunnings gift card for it… Still feels kind of wrong. Even though I already have a Woolies rewards card and probably gave up all privacy long ago.
At least I’m probably confusing their algorithm by buying baby food and bibs for the cat.
While I was packing some clothes into my suitcase in a hurry it fell off the bench and fucking walloped my leg. I don't even remember which part of it hit me. It was an instant "oh fuck" when it was falling but I could move in time
Now I have an about 8cm long red, swollen, very painful bruise on my shin. This happened about 4 hours ago, and I did try to brush it off, but it hurt walking through the shops to go get my roast chicken and I got many stares (I wear shorts). I also don't have a first aid kit or ice pack yet, so uhh, go me I guess. Oh, and I'm a tummy sleeper so it's hurts to lie down 🙃
Frozen peas in a towel are a better ice pack than an official ice pack. Plus you can eat them at some point. You can gladwrap it in place if it's not too cold on your leg, hence the towel.
Decisions decisions.
My boss just told me that the xmas do is this afternoon - but I also have a pre-existing dentist appointment for late this afternoon and there's no possibility of re-scheduling it to a pre-xmas slot. Will have to wait until the new year at least.
So, dentist or xmas party? - so far the dentist is winning.
I'd go to the dentist, much less stressful.
That’s very short notice from your boss. Depends on what you’re seeing the dentist for and if it can wait, and how you feel about work Xmas parties
I’d pick the dentist, personally 😆
Dentist, always. It’s more important and you don’t know when you’ll get another appointment
Pegboard i am consumed by pegboard
The removalists have arrived. That concludes the grind for me. There's still little stuff to pack, but the big rush was making sure everything was clear for them to move
I've gotta pack up all my food, but I'm waiting til they're almost done to do the frozen stuff
E: I washed down to the local cafe and did the first time ever, the barista remembered my name! Bit of a shame I'm moving away now. The new area doesn't have a cafe or coffee shop within walking distance (unlike here where the local is a 2 min walk), but the plus side is I'll be near about a dozen restaurants, a supermarket, and a pharmacy, all within walking distance! My current nearest supermarket is an IGA about a 15 minute uphill walk
You didn't eat out the fridge/freezer to have near nothing to move? We start on weird starving student combinations as soon as a move is known.
^^ same.
It's also a great time to bin those bags/boxes of frozen stuff that you've had in there over a year and never eat.
Fell asleep at like 9.30pm, or 10ish I think. I think I was tired lol.
Been getting better sleep on the couch under the aircon, than the bedroom.
hugs but not hugs that heat a person up
Looks like the Roomba festival just started or something. There's rides and stuff set up near the river diagonally across from flinders st station, near the row boat place
Right on 12…
Ellllooooooooo!
G'day llabsy. I'm just perfect like that 😉
My TV turned on at about 4:30am this morning – woke up to the bright glow out in the lounge. I could tell it was just cycling through google stock backgrounds, but still didn’t want to go out and turn it off (stupid brain thinking awful things) and didn’t want to wake up boyfy since he was sleeping so peaceful after a rough few nights. Thankfully it turned itself back off after 10 minutes.
I’ve read stories about how Alexia will randomly start singing or playing sounds when people are home alone and I really hope that my TV story is the spookiest I ever experience from smart tech!
Whenever I hear about these things, I always think of that video (1:50) with the bloke staying in a Japanese hotel when North Korea were doing their missile tests, and his tv turned itself on multiple times
Chris Broad, love his work!
Our doorbell goes off randomly at times, which isn’t fun when it’s late at night. Think it’s just a cheap doorbell problem rather than a ghost, like my colleague reckons
My washing machine started filling up late one night. I nearly shit the bed. It turned out to be a timing issue.
Second last day of work. Pray for anyone that asks me for favour at work today.
@Baku@aussie.zone, are you using the api to post these or are you doing them manually? Your timing has been perfect (12:00:00) the past few days and if you're manually doing it you're doing a great job!
Thanks! Nope, it's genuinely all me! It takes somewhere between 0.9-1.3 seconds after hitting post for it to actually post. Also have an alarm set for 11:58 to start typing up the post and checking the weather. Then I watch time.is from about 11:59, and once it hits 11:59:59 I hit post
Absolute dedication!
Just finished watching Day of the Jackal (the tv series). Great show, suspenseful to the end. You know the writers have done a good job when you find yourself cheering for a ruthless killer.

Today's gonna be a shitshow, I can feel it. Oh well, at least I've got an extra set of hands and a removalist. I was hoping it wouldn't come to indiscriminately throwing things in rubbish bags (that's a site spot for me, as that's what child protection usually give you when they've given you 15 minutes notice you're moving to the other side of the state). But it wasn't even procrastination, I just couldn't properly start. I think I need the time crunch, being forced to throw ideals and organisation out the window, and somebody to help and hold me accountable in person for it to work
Gonna be rocking 3 hours of sleep again. I'll get up at 6 and at least try to pack a bit myself, or at the very least do some tidying up and pack the non essentials (which I seem to find easier for some reason). Also need to finish constructing my dining table and make it out to the shops (tomorrow is absolutely not a cooking night, but also not an order in night, so I'm thinking roast chook rolls)
It will be ok. Removalists rock and will just deal with what you give them.
Moving is hard. And living on your own. Is hard. Yeah sure living with others can be awful. I love living on my own but I have 30 years on you and still needed my doc to point out that's it's legit hard to do this coordination and just all the day to day stuff on your own. So I'm just putting it out there that 3hours sleep or 10 it's still hard. Be gentle with yourself.
Enjoy the sleep when it's done. We are all so excited for you. You are going great friend.
It will not be okay, but that's okay
Thanks Gregsy, I'm looking forward to tonight's rest, although I get bad anxiety sleeping in new places, tgough. The first weeks sleep is probably gonna suck no matter what
Sorry bro. 😣 It was a thoughtless suggestion.
Good luck with the move, perhaps you can arrange a few more trips on Airtasker before Friday if needed
No, no, it's beyond fine melbsy. I thought it was helpful! I'm just not the helpable type half the time 😂
Just took the dog out for a wee and it started raining.
That's a big wee. (Heehee)
Expedited delivery water cycle
Had too much coffee. Helped me get through a long day but now I can't sleep (o)_(o)
I'll do the thread as I'm up 🙂
I'm meant to be doing work so I can leave early, instead I got roped into a game of table tennis.
Thank you near neighbour for the giant bunch of lemon grass. Sorry the plums aren't quite ripe.
Curious what people think of this who have no experience with this type of music. English trap kinda vibe? https://youtu.be/gYPX5juKBvg this is an absolute banger imo
This sounds like drill to me, which was big around the time this song seems to have come out. This song in particular was my intro to drill.
Drill! That's it. Like this track. Idk how I got into drill but have been listening for like 10 yrs similar stuff lol
I don't think they'd all fit in the rented lambos to get to the shoot.
Not saying this to rain on your parade, but since you asked, I don't like it. I listened to it, and it wasn't horrible, but definitely not going to intentionally listen to it again. Just not really my type of music. I don't mind R&B/Hip Hop, but UK trap/drill is not my vibe at all. Probably the closest thing I can think of that I do like is Stay Blessed by Genesis Owusu, but even that's more British rap-rock than hip hop or anything
You're not raining on my parade dw lol, I know it's a bit out there and not everyones cup of tea. Just kinda curious to get outside opinions
As of 4:47pm today, Baku's gone independent! 🎉
WOOTWOOT
🎉 🥳 🎊
🥳🥳🎉
❤️ 🎉 ❤️
🎉♥️
Congratulations! Now a Nadult.
When I switched accounts from shutjustworks to Aussie zone, someone suggested I was a faku (FakeBaku). Now I kinda feel like a fake adult - all the responsibilities, none of the perks
Btw if anybody wants a rant about the unfairness of being able to pay taxes but unable to vote, you can hit me up any time
Woohoo, here are your first bills 📃📄, and an adulting badge ✅
I've already used $10 of electricity since the plan was connected 6 days ago 😔
Well, to be fair only like $1 of that is actual usage. Unfortunately I don't have a choice but pay their $1.50 per day "connection charge" until I can change providers in March. Probably gonna be the second thing I do after turning 18
💃🕺🪩
So happy for and proud of you. You're such a resourceful and smart young person, I'm so glad you'll be out of the incompetent claws of DFFH very soon and you can begin to heal and shine in your own space and place. I look forward to hearing about your new realisations and experiences. One sage bit of advice I had from my psychologist when I was moving was: it's entirely valid not to unpack all at once. Take your time, pace yourself. You have permission to settle in on your own schedule.
Woohoo! 🎉
🥳
This is a mighty good thing.
Indeed
🎉🍾🎉🎂🥳✨️
🎉🥳
Congratulations! So very happy for you, such a huge milestone! May your home be filled with good fortune and happiness. We are always here to help with any and all random questions, look forward to hearing how you’ve settled in!
Thanks cakesy, much appreciated! I can tell you that I do not have the energy to unpack at this point in time. I did move a desk into my bedroom and setup my computer, but that's as far as it's going. I feel like I live in an Amazon warehouse with all these boxes!
this is awesome, so excite 😀
🎉
🎉🎉⭐⭐💓 cheers to a new chapter! You got this
Thanks old Greg! 🥳
YAASSSS, BAKU! 🎉
WOOOHOOO!!! Enjoy. You've earned it.
EDIT just realised this is a weeks old post #holidaybrain - anyhoo! Still proud of you Baku!
Wooooooooohooo! This is the best news!! Congratulations!!
Like kitten said below, don’t feel the need to rush into unpacking and getting everything perfect straight away. Savour the feeling of independence and enjoy it!
