Forgot my meds this morning, wrong day to choose to walk to work (though the walk is actually quite nice). Had to use work car to duck home at 11 and take the meds because I was not coping. Rest of day has been utter shite. Am phenomenally tired and getting grumpy and resentful and feeling unappreciated. Reaching end of tether. Everything looks bad right now especially the huge pile of dishes that makes me want to cry.

I will put on some music, do the dishes, boil some pasta, chop up the asparagus and zucchini and garlic and an onion, make a pasta dish and call it a night. Then ignore everything else. I can do it.

E: I did it. Limping towards 9:30pm but I made a big dish of pasta (decided to flavour it with some Szechuan peppers for a change!) enough for tonight and two lunches. Washed up all those dishes as well. I think when my pay comes through I'll be looking up bench top dishwashers in earnest

- I already did that the last two weeks, the fact that I had no time to work extra hours in my previous fortnight's pay and had to buy a new phone plus that stupid $200 fine means I can't afford a 3rd week of it. I'm currently living off my returned bond from the previous place until I get paid Friday. Won't be rested until a few days after Xmas!

I move to create a third weekend to be positioned on Wednesdays. Those in favour?
- Aye! Wednesdays off is a very civilised custom. We should adopt it immediately.
- For 9-5ers Mon-Fri, I've always been on the side of Friday or Monday off for this debate, having three days in a row means you get two days not thinking about work, whereas a mid week day off means you just get another typical Sunday of dreading the next day.

Every few months I need to attend a pharmacy to grab a medication. A lot of people who take this medication are ex substance users.

I have a great relationship with the owner, and she often is quite flexible and friendly with me. At times I've had to call her mobile to get her to explain something to the pharmacist whose serving me because they've made a mistake.

Generally their treatment of people such as myself is quite poor.

The pharmacists she employs absolutely hate my guts. I think they're annoyed that someone who they consider scum is doing quite well. And to be honest, I play it up when I'm there lol

I love every minute of it.

If you want to play the superficial status game, then I'm going to rub it in your fucking face lol

I just don't understand, aren't they supposed to be people who want to help others?

He's very handsome so that will be good for him in a jury trial.

His target was a totally evil man and the world is well rid of him.

US and state governments have failed the American people by allowing such evil to exist for decades.

This whole episode came at precisely the wrong time. Even if it could nucleate a revolution there's just no way it would happen under the incoming presidency. Hopefully a nice reminder that most Americans are more similar than they are different on most issues.

- The opening scene of Fahrenheit 451 has been going through my mind the past 5 days. It starts with a man being hounded, just a man, guilt or innocence did not matter, the fact he was out and about and ran was proof of guilt". The chase was a show to satisfy the bloodlust of the public and give a show of justice. Totally terrifying.
He's from a very wealthy family. Like, they own country clubs and nursing homes, wealthy.
Went to private school, and was considered wealthy by their standards even.
If it's really him, it's going to be an interesting trial given his family's resources.

The swelling in my finger looks to be starting to go down, finally. It's still quite swollen but doesn't give the impression of a balloon ready to pop anymore, which is definitely a nice improvement. The pain has also died down, so I'm back to working on my assignment (I got a short extension, to prolong my torture). My typing is very slow with one finger not working, but Miss Meow is helping, by putting her head on the keys so I can't reach them anyway.

I followed up on the job I did reference checks for because it's been two weeks now. The recruitment person said she'd get back to me. In that time I got an email saying I was unsuccessful. But the hiring manager is on leave. This is all very confusing.

Since this progressed to references I expected to hear back with an offer. Not that it was guaranteed but that's how things normally go. We're around two weeks out from the end of the year and I was kind of expecting to hear back on this job so the whole thing has just thrown me mentally at the moment.

Recruitment person hit the send button on the system that send out the rejection letters during the call? Hiring manager may have already left a ‘no’ in the system but it just hasn’t been sent. Sorry you missed out but it can be something as benign as they had an internal applicant that got priority, may have been nothing to do with you specifically.
- If any of those outcomes are the case it's weird for them to ask for referees two weeks ago and only get a No now. Nothing is guaranteed with a new job until you're in there but this is just a strange waste of everyone's time
Ah man I'm sorry to hear that. That is very annoying. But I've been in the situation like this before. Got to references but they liked the other candidate more.
- I'm hoping its an automation accident but its still a strange one. They should have thought about things more because reference checks start to take up other people's time as well

- My work introduced a pod machine about 6 months ago which was a great call, but they were pretty unapologetic that it only had dairy. I understand that, but not one alternative ironically makes it pretty exclusive.

- Most likely. Apparently they don't really believe in padding anymore because of something about fire safety. There's also a lot of longitudinal seating (seats that go along each wall, as opposed to the traditional seats jutting out from the wall style), and the traditional seats look smaller (though the aisles between seats are now wider)
  I'd hazard a guess they'll feel similar to the short distance/commuter vlocities (they look like this). Not very comfortable, and kinda like they put concrete in the seats

Yesterday was a very drying day, even though not all that hot. Today is less windy, so won't dehydrate the plant so much.
- I mean more long term. Those trees are fracking the joint
Are they annual flowers? They can be surprisingly tough. They are built to grow quickly and take advantage of every resource available, put it all into flowering to create the next generation, then die off once things get tough. If you can let them self seed you'll often find they can get a foothold in quite tough conditions.
- Some of them are. I sowed alyssum and nasturtium and planted some marigold seedlings. I have more of the first two and some sunflowers sown in cups/trays in case the direct sow doesn’t takes

It's not just me, the internets really is mostly a negative place . I search for positive things and results slowly turn negative with each iteration. I don't like what it does to my moods.

People are going to switch off, I know I am slowly switching off . I don't read the papers as much as I used to. I see fewer people with their noses in their phone.

I don't listen to as many pods as I used to, yt's are looking bad.

Reddit is actually pretty good by comparison, if you are careful you will have positive experiences. Lemmy is good too. 🙂

I find that I get upset easier than normal if I spend enough time reading people's comments or social media in general.

I've been feeling the same recently. I try not to critical because I'm guilty of doing all the things I dislike multiple times over, and generally foster a negative atmosphere.
Honestly I'm feeling much the same as before I left. But it's probably my fault
- I think it's becoming a general societal mood. That could be because we have an aging population and older people tend to more negativity, or it could be economic circumstances and internets.
My understanding is that the tech giants (google, meta etc) are wanting to maximise money from advertising. Content that gets more clicks and comments gets pushed forward. This tends to be things that are sensationalist, divisive, rage bait, etc. And now even the regular news outlets do it, because they want the online engagement. An example might be what used to be a few days of low 30s temps in December, unmentioned outside of weather reports, has morphed into ‘Dangerous heatwave to scorch Melbourne this weekend’. It’s impossible to sift the real from the exaggerated. Negativity sells. I hate it.

My finger is still very sore, I hope the antibiotics start to help soon. On the positive side I've got some time home from work.

I still have a bunch of plants that need to be planted. I've ordered a hole digging attachment for my drill which should make it a bit easier - I gave myself a blister on my palm digging holes as well as the finger issue. I also bent my plastic trowel so have ordered a new sturdy one. I might need to see if my sister can give me a hand with the planting while mine is out of action.

I wish somebody would ask this copper chopper to stop doing laps over my head. I've been good; let me sleep

I decided to take a sponge, kettle, and some dishwashing liquid over with me today so I can wash the new plates and things I got, and put them away. The table says that it's coming between 8:00-11:30, I'm just hoping it's the later end of that, because I won't get there til about 9:30

Then the dryer is currently saying between 9-5, but they said they'll give me a 2 hour window in the morning. Hope it'll fit in the door

Apparently they decided to deliver it 15 minutes after I figured they wouldn't be coming and shut up shop/closed the gates. Ahmed had zero hesitation in throwing it over the fence. I don't really mind though. I would've been mad as if for the second time they rocked up at the only point during the day I closed the gate

I want to lodge a "what'd you do to my parcel" thing with AP for the 3 that were "in transit" in my suburb last Tuesday, because I have a sneaky suspicion that they're at the post office and they just forgot to scan them in (something they have forgotten to do a few times before). But their thing kept yelling at me to wait until 10 business days pass, so I guess I'll do that

Possibly worth going to the LPO and asking them if they've got them somewhere, but they're really really angry people there. Arrogant as all hell. I don't want to deal with them if I don't have to. And apparently they made the decision at the start of the year to cut off their phone line so I couldn't call either

Yep, Melbcat has another uti and that’s why she’s been so off. It wasn’t the shot.

I was offered the choice of bringing her in for a sample to be taken from her bladder and another culture done which is more ideal, but help isn’t available rn and getting her there alone is very physically demanding at this point so I opted to just grab the broad spectrum antibiotics and start her right now.

This means a return to grinding up pills, syringing them in water and wrestling her like a croc 😔 And obviously isn’t as good as targeted meds but I’m doing my best.

I managed to get into a Bank of Melbourne today, and wow they leave me feeling so ambivalent. They keep creating problems, but then are really really lovely and efficient about fixing them?

I went in and it was very much in and out. No line at all, the dude was lovely, and then he just took my license, and verified me in the span of about 2 minutes.

I've never felt so conflicted about whether a company deserves to be on my shitlist or not. Things will always go wrong, so knowing somebody can fix them politely, respectfully, and efficiently is great! But if that company is the one creating all the problems themselves, do they deserve praise for being willing and able to fix them?

Perhaps they're just hypochondriacs that pretend there are problems so people will actually go into their branches lmao
