"excluding the Covid period", this is purposeful sensationalism. Even the first paragraph of the article admits the title is misleading.
- For real, why does the landmark event that defined the early few years of the decade not count, but the one time some rich fucks gambled on houses too much does?

This is because China is on the brink of a financial collapse.
If you’re not in China, this has nothing to do with you
- Second largest economy is about to collapse. If you think this won't affect you, I've got some beach front property in Nebraska I think you'd love.
  
  No doubt the China collapse will affect you. My point is that the reduction in luxury goods purchases has nothing to do with buying behavior outside of China.
