This is extremely dangerous to our democracy.
Nah but seriously that’s political spin, they pick a keyword, phrase, or topic and try to make it stick by hammering it over in unison, all sides do it globally. It’s a form of PR, it’s lame AF but not really a big deal.
The bigger problem is how the DNC was able to be owned by an individual, and how outright corrupt they are in their position of kingmakers.

If Biden was so unelectable that he needed to be replaced immediately before the convention, and if 60%+ of the country thought things were on the wrong track, why would you run a Biden 2.0 campaign?
There was unique opportunity for Harris to thank Biden for his service and pivot. She should have had an answer for what she would have done differently than Biden, how she would have delivered more for Americans (regardless of if that was even possible).
Americans needed to hear Hope and Change, and she tried to sell them the status quo, but with Liz Cheney in her cabinet. Americans chose chaos, because the status quo ain't working for them.

The U.S. has performed better than the rest of the world post covid and the people don't recognize it. The low information voters were always going to choose the guy from when things were good.

Things went to shit while Trump was still in office. There was a whole year Harris could have spent a lot more time reminding people about where prices made their biggest jumps and a million people died. And he told us to drink bleach.

It seems that Harris only talked very specifically about price-gouging and didn’t generally address inequality, jobs, etc. She was afraid of sounding like Bernie and too willing to lean right. And still got called a communist.

It's quite an uphill battle because the economy is complex and Trump gives people simple answers (that won't actually work).

- Neolibs who can't see past their own nose that the old world of Bush, Gore, Obama, Romney, McCain, Clintons are all gone and the people actually need and want big ideas and simply tinkering with the neoliberal worldview isn't going to appeal even if the ideas might work because they just haven't in so long. Bidenomics this, GDP that, most people work 2 jobs to live in slums. It is actually okay if things get worse if it's to a greater purpose and things get better eventually, what people hate is slow incessant tweaking of nuanced details far beyond them of what they see as a failed system

However there's blame everywhere here, mostly with the Democratic leadership AND the Democratic voters.
Sure, they ran a not so great campaign bit holy shit, nothing compared to the trainwreck that was Trump. But at the end of the day when voting mattered, Republican voters turned the fuck up and voted, millions of Democrats did fucking not.
Everyone has a massive amount of blame here, we are all collectively responsible even if you like I did voted for Harris and we all deserve the consequences.

Biden managed a win against Trump and while Clinton lost the electoral college she did win the popular vote... Harris did neither.
Neoliberal politics that constantly squeeze the working class to steal wealth for the rich have led to a lot of discontent - people wrongly assume Trump will fix that while Harris' campaign was basically just "We're going to neoliberal so hard your neoliberalism is going to have neoliberalism in its neoliberalism."
That was just a losing strategy and failed to capture votes like Biden or Obama the latter of which literally ran on "hope and change".

Bigger issues is the 10 million Biden voters that sat it out this time around. That's an "us" problem.
The biggest thing i hear from undecideds I talk to is that nobody really seems to care about the threat to democracy and Trump being evil. They just continue to assume he's gonna be better for economy and their messaging of blaming Biden/Kamala for everything works.
I think we needed better more direct policies specifically suited to the demographics we are trying to reach, and simpler language when detailing his blame in the economy and threat to democracy. We refused to say "fascist" while "radical leftist lunatics" became his standard nomenclature. If those are the labels that get through to people, then we should use them.
We'll need a firebrand to get people back on board, talking fundamental changes and a promise of "not more of the same".
I appreciate how Kamala ran her campaign, but appealing to the joyfulness in people's hearts isn't enough. People need something to rally around.

It's Harris's fault because over 100 million people sat out the election. It was on her to get those people to the polls and she utterly failed to do so. When people are motivated Democrats win. Obama got that. Harris's entire campaign was geared towards motivating conservatives. Conservatives that were never going to vote for her because they already had a more conservative option. People were looking for solutions and what Harris promised is to maintain the status quo.
Maybe, if we're extremely lucky, and we even still have elections in four more years, Democrats will finally have learned to stop trying to out conservative the conservatives and actually run on progressive policies.
