i've seen one russian tank ramming its barrel into a tree head on. this probably doesn't matter because it'd be destroyed by now anyway

It's for clearing buildings and trenches, anywhere the tank commander might want to shoot around corners while staying in the safety of cover
I always think the funniest thing about those guns is how everyone was surprised that they mostly work.
Yes, but IIRC only for a limited amount of rounds, after which the whole gun is rendered junk
