It's more of a tink, maybe a thunk if you're feeling rowdy.
The only time I've heard the loud hollow BONG is from video clips and memes.

True… but probably much more substantial in the theater. Maybe it was just because it ran for like a year, but more than any other film I remember hearing Titanic from the hallway while walking to see other movies.

As someone who did not want to see this movie, this was my favorite part. This and the film melting with 10 minutes left and getting free tickets to another movie.
How about the other guy sliding down the sinking deck and getting an air vent between the legs?
The dude who falls and hits the railing just as it goes verticles is my favourite.
