Police union will not fight the firing of sheriff's deputy who fatally shot Sonya Massey

I doubt it's a moral line. Seems like a pragmatic stance that standing behind him isn't worth the bad PR they'd get for doing it. It's certainly something, at least.

This is encouraging news because it means the police unions no longer feel immune to public reaction. It's nice to see them scared for once.

Nah, I'm pretty confident he'll get prison time. This incident has about as much coverage as George Floyd had. You're pretty fucked if your department and union are trying to distance themselves from you. They'll make sure he falls to save face.
