Stupid dirty infected denizens.

Been coughing for 3 weeks. keept getting dirty looks from colleagues. Was thinking I should wear a sign that says "dont worry, its just daycare germs. So long as I dont lick your eyeballs you wont catch it".
- After my xmas bout of whatever-the-fuck-virus I had a lingering cough for like 6 weeks. Went into work and had to keep explaining that I'm not sick, and not contagious. I understand the trepidation though. Still too many nuffies that think going into work while actively sick is some sort of show of strength.
So many people out sick at the moment. I woke up with a sore throat and I’ve hardly been out and wear a mask.
- There's a bout of covid going through my office for the past few weeks. Mine isn't covid (tested 3 times already) and probably not the flu (had my shot a couple of months back). Most likely just some head cold virus thingy that is more annoying than anything.
I’ve been fake taking extra shots from my puffer because of filthy looks on the bus. Really not sick people, this cough is my normal.

I was supposed to go to a funeral today but when I got up this morning I just didn't have it in me to go. Mr P was going so I said he could represent our family. I seem to be reaching some kind of depressing events threshold. They were all going out drinking afterwards at one of the shittier local hotels 😬 definitely count me out, would rather stay home than deal with drunken people today. Especially people who had already started squabbling about money barely a day after she died. I felt a bit guilty though, especially seeing as I'd taken the day off work to go, so I had a go at repairing the dishwasher and succeeded! Am kind of enjoying having a day off that's not a public holiday.

You do whatever you need to do in your own way to get through it.
Everyone has different ways of handling and getting through things, you just do what best works for you.
That's what's most important.

I made the mistake of putting Cat TV on last week. One of the cats is now so transfixed that the child cannot play roblox without his character being attacked. It's funny, but I am slightly concerned that she might harm the TV... your method seems safer and involves less screen time which is bad for our younguns.

- Load it in the morning. Start it an hour before you get home so it's ready to hang when you arrive? That way, it isn't going mankey all day.
  That's all I got.
- The only reasons I can come up with are if the laundry is on a different floor it might be handy to check if it has finished before you go downstairs to unload it. It might also remind you if you don't unload it which could definitely be handy. Or it could give you a bit more control over programming if it has a decent app - it's easier/cheaper to build in more variables into an app than it is to have hard buttons. My rice cooker has an app which gives you access to a lot more detailed programming than you can do on the panel, like setting the exact finish time for the times, adjusting default times to your preferences, programs for yoghurt etc. Plus it allows multilingual settings - the cooker has chinese on all the buttons but the app is in English.

I found the corkscrew! I cunningly placed it on top of my box of wine. Where I had already looked, but obviously not very well as it was just pushed to the back a bit (under a shelf, so not very visible).

Having used the first bottle of wine in the beef stew I have opened another bottle to drink, and have been able to use the un-screwed cork that I had to push into the bottle as a seal for the newly opened one, which means I have been able to use the wine stopper in the bottle of soy sauce that for some reason had a non re-sealable bottle top and has been sitting with a bit of foil squished onto it as its lid.

I’m impressed you found affordable wine with actual cork.

I've never lived in a place where the washing machine was part of the lease! That's good that they're replacing yours!!
I've been lugging my refurbished one around for almost 10 years. It was refurbished when I bought it, a long with the dryer and the fridge, by Kids off the Kerb. And while I ended up giving the dryer back to them when we moved (no room for the dryer), the washing machine and the fridge are still going strong. No issues with either of them!
Washer AND dryer combo? Bro, they did NOT cheap out.
- They're about $1k-ish from what I can see. It does apparently have an app though which is interesting and exciting!

- I'm young and well off enough to never have needed to hand wash (+ until recently I've only worn things that are washer and dryer friendly), but last year the washing machine at the last place broke and I was out of clean clothes so I had to hand wash and Jesus Christ I didn't realise wet clothes were that fucking heavy when waterlogged. I actually fucked my back up for a few weeks thinking that I could be superman and grab a whole bunch of them and lift them with 1 hand without a warm up.
  Also spilled a drink while I was in bed and had to wash my electric blanket which sucked so much. I was trying to wash it carefully because I didn't want to snap the elements and get electrocuted the next time I plugged it in so I couldn't wring it very much and had to carry it draped over my shoulder dripping on me and everything else. I've decided that next time I wash it, I'm taking it outside and hosing it down over the clothes line because I was NOT prepared for that

Beef stew (with lots of wine) has been cooked and is currently in jars in the pressure canner. Seven serves, so one tonight and six for later.

So have my internal job interview next week. I've put my expected salary as 10% greater than I currently have, but about 9 months ago they made the role that I'm going for no longer an automatic pay jump. I know they will say my pay will remain the same and I don't know how to respond to that. They are desperate for people right now, but so is the team id be leaving. I am definitely worth a raise but my company is cheap. The company also loves to bluff - like you ask for a raise, they will tell you no chance UNTIL you have another job offer and say you're leaving. It's a tricky one. Any thoughts?

I think if you get another offer for more money, I wouldn't stay at the same company because they view you as a flight risk.
Advice I've seen on lemmee.World is if they offer you a promotion without a payrise you put that on your resume and immediately look for another job elsewhere paying the money you were looking for

On a cross-town trip to prahan. Love it when the trains all line up so well

I had to catch 2 buses then a tram a couple of weeks ago and it lined up so well going to my destination (max 5 min wait time for each) but sucked on the way back because it would've been a 10 min wait for the tram and 25ish for each bus so I ended up doing bus then tram then walk
- On my way back now, and yeah, it doesn't line up that great on the way back. But I think I'm a bit luckier where I am, just because I'm going from the Inner North to the Inner South, so I'm not really in a place where busses are required. Just trains, or if I really wanted to extend the trip, I could take two trams.
  Busses are, by far, my least favourite type of public transport lol

Rest day today, I really need to try to get some sleep

Trying to get the mrs to understand that servicing a modern DPF diesel engine, plus tyres and brakes on a big SUV is gonna be bloody expensive (and given its "my" car cost ME), meanwhile I can replace her whole engine for 20 bucks and run the thing off the smell of an oily rag. Meanwhile the SUV has copped 10k km and shitbox hasn't hit 2k km.

I shouldnt call it a shitbox, its such a fun little car to drive I love that thing to death.

Went to Aldi and saw some of those extreme thermo boots.

I almost bit the bullet but I wasn’t quite sure if those boots were going to be comfy enough or too warm for me to wear as I normally wear work boots to work and they’re starting to go.

Still thinking if I should have gotten them or not.

I bought some and can confirm they are super warm and with a good sturdy grip. Will use them for outdoor winter stuff. And at $35 I don’t care if they get muddy and trashed. I reckon they would be too warm and chunky for an office.
- Oh bugger. I work both indoors and outdoors by the majority of the time I’m indoors in an office.
  At the moment I use tradies steel capped boots so im not sure if that’s any good of a comparison.
  35 for a pair of boots that would last quite awhile looked quite attractive to me but not sure how long they would last either.

I like going to musicals but haven’t been for some time because the current offerings are so boring. It’s just the same shows being recycled. I feel like theatre has followed the same trend as pop movies, just reboots and reruns because they are safe. Original creativity is seen as too high risk. It’s a bit sad when the art has left the arts.

I sort of agree, but at the same time my first experience of theatre was Cats and that is crazy.
I agree and observe that it's been like that too for orchestral performances , ballet and opera for decades now. There aren't even new recordings anymore, just re-releases decade after decade.
I suppose that's one reason why I listen to so many movie soundtracks, it's new music.

My cooking attempts with chicken drumsticks for the last few days have sort of failed.

I don't know if I can be bothered getting flour today as this would make it my 3rd trip down to the shops.

Was going to attempt a batter using only cornstarch and egg with some heavy seasoning tonight and see how that goes.

This is for an air fryer as well.

I make a popcorn chicken type thing with a bunch of spices in cornflower and it tastes pretty good. I go really heavy on the salt because I find it nicer super salty, but that's just me being weird. Mix some cayenne pepper in if you have it, adds a nice taste and a bit of kick!
If you want crispy chicken use cornflakes. Put them in a bag and crush them then add all your flavours with the crumbs. Lather your drumsticks up with yogurt, mayo or egg and roll the drumsticks in it. Airfry
following Thorn's tips next time buy tempura batter mix.
Would recommend mixing the batter with ICE cold water or even shaved ice for extra crispy finish. This is essentially a tempura batter that you are planning. Drumsticks tempura! The batter may well burn in the airfryer even on lowish heat, as the drumsticks will take MUCH longer to cook than the batter. Would recommend par-cooking the chooklegs in the microwave in moist heat, then battering them for the airfryer.
If you can't get flour, or want a crispier drumstick, panko bread crumbs are also good to use. Your batter sounds like it would be sticky enough to make sure the bread crumbs stick. Least, that's the result of my partner's experiments to make fried chicken at home :D
