so its been a week. Had to take kid to emergency yesterday. Hes been released and fine now, just a bunch of viruses running rampant on him but the MCH and GP both said "yeah, lets get the hospital to check him out". I thought I kept my cool under pressure pretty well, but came home last night got him to bed and just kind collapsed on the couch like "holly fucking shit that was one of the hardest days of my life".
It comes very close to the 12 month anniversary of the LAST hardest days of my life that also involve a him and a hospital. So if we made a year before taking him to the hospital we've done pretty well. Shout out to the MCH Hotline, the GP and the Monash health staff. All were simply amazing.
It's important to recognise how exhausting kids are, especially when they're sick and needing that extra hospital help. We get so caught up with keeping up that we forget it's okay to stop and rest, so enjoy that couch time.
I’m glad Tinyest is only ordinary sick rather than Dangerous Sick. Poor lad
There seem to be some shocking viruses going round lately, I'm glad he's ok. It's hard when kids are sick, it's exhausting and also mentally fatiguing.
When working from home, is it acceptable to work in your jammies?
I’m wide awake, but I’m really comfy
not only is it acceptable, it is expected
Absolutely. Just have something nearby to put on the top half for any video calls.
What Cake said. Half an attempt at a hairdo and a top. No pants required!
Business on top, jami-party on the bottom!
An evening of video games and music I think. Tomorrow night is an emo event which should be fun.
Also, am desperate for a shitty Domino's pizza but am sticking to my chicken and veggies dinner.
What game are you playing? I've got sucked back into Minecraft myself.
I'm playing Outer Worlds. Not usually my sort of thing but the story and writing are incredible!
Am gonna give fallout 4 a try tonight just to see what it's like.
Tried something novel last night. Went to bed without the aid of electronics. Phone went on the charger and my head hit the pillow. 8 hours of sleep later, I feel fantabulous.
Gah! I just remembered, went and made it and then realized I was beaten.
I should look into automating these.
Possibly Brisbane has one, ‘brisbot’ makes their daily thread. May they could kindly share their method? Would be awesome if it could be automated!
What ever happened to the bot? You had it going for a while didn't you @RustyRaven@aussie.zone?
🍪
That would be so good. Can we call it Melbot?
I actually already have a pet bot. I use it for admin tasks and testing, mostly. I don't know at this point whether I'll use that one, or make something new.
A quick google search showed me something promising: https://github.com/RikudouSage/LemmySchedule
I'm at work now and not actively working on this.
How deplorably uncreative. Why not Ermingertrude or Sveinn the Snaggletooth?
Yes. Automation. Good.
About 1/3rd of the way through making the chilli dust. Wore gloves as per Seagoons very sage advice and it went through them heh.
For the next 2/3rds I will double glove, and wear an N95... and goggles.
This morning was brutal.
Just got stared down by this big fella. Almost my height (193....😳)
Bruce is reminding you who's patch this really is.
Do you even lift, bro?
Seriously though, they are surprisingly tall. I remember going out the back after dark when I lived in regional Vic and almost walked straight into a big fella like this (I'm only about 168cm tall and it was clearly and obviously much taller than me!) We stared at each other in silence for a moment, and it just had that strangely expressionless look that they have, before I very slowly and with no sudden movement backed back into the house and closed the door, resolving to never go out the back after dark ever again.
Good decision.
Tea time. I bring bickies.
I feel sorry for the little dude on the left wearing green undies and ball gag mask just fell into the pile.
i didn't expect to use that sentence today.
He's got a mate. Look on the right.
An orgy of biscuits. I'm in! ☕
Ahem, I live at *******************, will happily provide tea/coffee/milo/something stronger.
Oh no I have been caught out! Subtlety thy name is not Fish
Was kinda hoping the nicely marbled little kitties would be a thing. Any away…
Oooooh
It rained in Perth today. We are not equipped to handle it.

What is this wet stuff falling from the sky?!
I'm getting yt recommendations on how to be an elegant and chic older woman.
Seems I should only wear red nails and lips, never wear anything but simple hoops and studs, no long hair , no dyed hair, no fun clothes, only classics, lots of gold, beige, sailor stripes and be very very thin
If there is no room for my mushroom pants and matching earrings or totoros on my finger nails or bag I'd rather not be chic
well, chic for when it calls for it, otherwise, I'm a carlton/brunnie girl
Totoro is awesome.
Boring. I think you'll be fine as long as you don't wear a boob tube with leggings.
Hoped to get done with work early but the shite hit the fan so I'm working back to clean up. luckily I'm WFH today so I have poured a glass of wine and opened a packet of chippies to see me through. cheers 🥂
I was a taxi so beer o'clock didn't start until now. Cheers. 🍺
You are a monarch, the ruler of your domain. Do not let the petty squabbles of the peasants disrupt your peace and joy. Have a drink on me, friend 🥂
haha agreed 👑
Cheers ears 🍺
I’ve tried the ‘Pure’ drops. Undecided if the help sulphur headache or not. Maybe? They’re cheap enough I’ll continue just incase
$8 for a brick of cooking butter? Fuck off. (I got the off brand instead) What happened to making biscuits being a cheap activity you could let kids ruin just for fun?
1.20 for soda water too! Bloody joke, it was what, 80c this time last year?
I have a gadget for that one. Loves my bubbly water.
Butter has definitely gone up. Even the cheap stuff is not so cheap any more.
All I heard was home made biscuits. Mmmm.
In process….
Another slow start to the day but I didn't sleep in this time.
Working at another site, a lot peaceful and quieter here actually, wish I could end my day here.
Came here today specifically during a certain time to be available to people if they wanted to see me and found out I've actually come at the worst possible time and no one is available so it's just going to be a quiet day here while I listen to podcasts.
Going to have to organise a different time for when people are available for next week and the future.
Is there a band or artist you're not really into but they have a song you think is quite good?
Mine is Flowers by Miley Cyrus.
I hesitate to say this but.... Nickelback - How you remind me is a pretty damn good song.
I got free tickets to see them and they were pretty good.
Shake it off by Taylor Swift.
Not this song, but yes. My 10 year old listens to nothing else and it gets a bit old, but at the same time, damn she can totally write a song.
Spotify presented me with Flowers, and I gotta admit, it has gone onto my playlist for the walk from the station to the office
I'm addicted to mini callipos. God they're so damn good.
Plumber said he would come after lunch and give me an hour notice. This is after he was supposed to come last week and just never showed up. Then it took him 3 days to message me acknowledging that he didn’t show.
It’s 4pm now, still no news. Won’t be giving him another chance. Uggh why is organising any trade always so painful?
Today's really felt cold and uncomfortable. Like we skipped autumn and went straight into winter. My feet are like ice blocks
Nah. This is typical Melbourne autumn weather. There was no sunshine today so maybe that's why it felt cold. I know this because my birthday is at the start of June and that's cold.
Same birthday month, I remember the first time I spent it in Melbourne I was in tears and morose because of how dreadfully cold and miserable I was at the time... But I just thought autumn would ease in a bit more, not go straight into 6 consecutive days of gloom.
You know how there's a gap period between using your fan and your heater? That's autumn for me, particularly April. When you don't need either. Today I was this close to using the heater the whole day, and I feel like I barely put my fans away.
Agreed, I feel like we go from one extreme to the other and there’s no middle ground.
I’ve got the socks and Ugg boots back on now.
I just had flashbacks to cold feet thrust onto my legs. Never understood how feet could get so cold lol
Ahh the weekend.
I feel like I didn’t get much work done today.
After coming back from being offsite I had to organise a bunch of things and it seemed to keep going on forever and ever and then I decide to finally take my lunch break late then next hung you know there’s only 10 mins left of being at work.
Left me a little moody though taking my break so late but I did get in a late coffee.
Knocked off work, cleaning up my mess as an excuse to move around
Yesterday's car expedition and dilemma took a huge chunk out of me. Not so much the travel, but I think feeling like I was internally pitting my friends/family against each other in terms of their values.
Anyway, the person I trust most was once in the first category but worked his way up into the second and gave me some very sound advice based not just off personal anecdotes but opportunity cost etc etc.
And the people I know in category one, I do love them to bits, but I've come to realise, I actually really, really don't aspire to be them... and it feels bad to admit that even to myself.
As someone who was in category one but is now in two, here’s my take on it. Category 1 is great only if you are either mechanically handy yourself, or you know people that are. Category one people are not really taking a risk, they have a cousin/freind/inlaw who can help them do work at low or no cost if needed, only parts. So if you are not in that social situation category one is more risky, because you may have to fork out $$$ if something major breaks down. Nothing wrong with having reliability and low running costs on your list of priorities for car selection.
Thanks, yeah I think their appetite and experience with risk is very different from mine. It's very much like the culture I'm from and many of my extended family are like that. Nothing's ever officially done, everyone knows a guy who knows a guy.
But tbh for an asset that has huge safety implications, I think it has a huge impact on resale value to not document regular servicing. I might trust my cousins, but how could I expect a total stranger to if my cousins can't put their name on it? Especially as you can't make up for missed services later...
Anyway, I definitely feel more at ease with my decision. I do want to live frugally but I'd like to be smart and realistic about where to save the money.
this working class tendency of some people to keep people down has always puzzled me.
i think it's an attitude and behaviour borne of fear, resentment and jealousy,
i just don't get it, surely financial stability is worth so much in quality of life, being stressed about bills is a little hell
and so many people hate work, really hate any kind of effort that isn't simple immediate gratification, it's like work is an evil thing
another thing, sometimes people just aren't that smart, there is no higher capacity to do anything more that what they are doing
Yesterday’s car expedition and dilemma
I LOVE a good car dilemma! Feel like sharing again?
Well, there's a lot of factors to consider so it'd take forever to write, but the gist of what was at stake with the conflicting advice was:
Would you rather take a chance on:
Both roadworthy Japanese hatches, similar age, size, features. Just need something for commuting 2x week and getting around town, occasional country drive. Likely to get more scratches and dents if my niece learns to drive in it.
Anyway, that's what I've been stewing on.
In terms of actually picking a car, there are other factors at play for me anyway (I preferred how the first car handled, it has more storage, met the owners and liked them, though it's an unusual Honda model so parts will be more expensive). And I'd get a pre purchase inspection with any car regardless.
And I know there's other cars out there of course. But I do want to decide soon. I'm tired of car sharing...
I chose "good boy" for the dogs previous job, and it said I was wrong? I stopped playing after that
you are wrong, that is also his current job
Love a quiz - 6/10, with some good guesses
5/10, mostly guesses. The pup one was the only answer I knew!
7/10 by throwing out some massive guesses
Gonna be a good day it seems.

"Designated drivers can have water. Or they can get super crazy and have bubbled water. Or they can go completely loco and have iced tea!"
My friend, at my birthday drinks 😂😂
On my wedding night on Hamilton Island I was offered still, mineral or Island water and me being adventurous said Island water please and that was the wrong choice apparently. I reefed my dinner up something shocking.
Ice tea on tap, hell yes I would partake.
That was a banging dinner
Up to the next 3rd of chilli dust. These are the habs.. The burn the goggles do nothing my hands are on fire.
Rave choon material

I have a new idea.
get one of those boxes with the special gloves, the type of boxes for handling nuclear material
So wee little drama-llama yesterday evening. Guess which tired dumbass almost lost their laptop at the airport?
Was very lucky, but have also hurt my hip on top of an already injured calf. Gave my self a cough from bolting across the terminal to one gate and back again. Waste as my plane was still boarding.
And man, I just keep getting the burps. I definitely felt like a very gross passenger to sit next to. 😂
jeez. These velcro people don't mess around
If you think they're being greedy arseholes, you shouldn't! They aren't doing this for themselves, they're doing it because it's the right thing to do god damnit!
They're hoping people call it "hook-and-loop fasteners" or "hook-and-pile fasteners" or "touch fasteners" instead 🤔 Good luck to them with that.
i love black grapes
Just thought of ominous mash-up of tram announcements: For your continued safety, please remember to touch on your Myki.
haaa. one group's email lists at work have buggered up, and they've been emailing the entire organisation (thousands of people) instead of just the people on their lists. We have been receiving weird, random emails for a couple of days, and they have just figured it out...
Spotify today is giving me dreamy Istanbul tea house, and I rather like it
Have you ever been in an Istanbul tea house?
Having tea, apple tea is delish, with the locals and having a chat, listening to their stories, that is wonderful. 😊🧋🧋
I have not. Istanbul is on my bucket list
Käärijä released a new single and it is a fkn banger
Ruoska - Käärija x Erika Vikman
I think I have a crush on him 😬😍
When techno hits metal then momentarily hits dubstep :)
That is like literally his style haha, hits all my serotonin makers. ROCK ROCK is a good one that's more minimalist, but Kiertava Sirkus is hands down my fav of his.
Lol the trains into the city are more packed than the ones out of it
Probably a combination of the comedy festival and the AFL game on tonight.
Maybe also the Storm game on tonight could be contributing to it as well.
I was going to guess that ball thing. 95% of the ads i see being for sportsbet kinda gave it away
I loved my robot vac, and the sound didn’t bother me or the previous cats. One current cat however thinks it’s a hilarious game to bap it off the charger every 5 seconds. Had to give up.
We got one of these and for the price cant fault it. on low its pretty quite, but the sound deffo kicks up if you need to turn the power up. Not SURE if its got a hepa filter though.
Thanks, I'll bookmark it
Quite is a relative term, I’ve never had a vacuum that I would call quiet. The ones with decent power tend to be noisier, and I’d rather not waste my time cleaning with something that’s not doing the job properly. I like to listen to music or audiobooks while I do housework, (because housework is a drag), and I tend to use headphones instead of speaker because I’m moving around and also of course vacuum noise to overcome. Set of headphones might be cheaper than a new vacuum?
I've got headphones but the cat gets upset
Time to start cooking my snags
if any of you podcast listening types like factual/often historical learning type podcasts, I highly recommend "The Constant".
Oooh must try! Getting bored with yt Esoterica.
the host of "the constant" took me a little to get used to (he's very American), but his story telling, and the topics, are great, so it's worth it
Why do my white socks get this way? How do I take better care of them 😭 and these are new ones!! Hardly 2 months old.
It’s ingrained dirt from walking around in just socks. Solution is to either always wear shoes, vacuum and mop daily, or wear black socks. But to get them clean try a soak in some oxy stuff for a couple of hours then wash in intense cycle, they will come out cleaner but probably not pristine, because the dirt has pushed into the fibres.
It could be your shoes doing it. What I do is use a bar of sard wonder soap, I wet the soap and the socks, put one sock on each hand and give them a good lather, keep the soap suds on and throw them in the wash. The pilling (all those balls on the socks) can be removed with a de-baller which is a little battery operated hand held doover.
There are non battery ones. Love mine. Also consider laundry liquid with eucalyptus in it.
Yeah these are my tennis socks but how the dirt? I'm confused about that one. I'll give sard soap a go. I bought the Napisan on your recommendation a few months ago. Will that work?
My housemate recently got a de-linter? from Temu so I will give that a go as well 😄 thx CEO!!
yay for Op shop vinyls
listening to an old stephane grapelli album and it's pretty cool

Big argument with my partner last night. 12 years, two kids, one dog. It's hard man. So much pressure, so many missed meanings, so many regretted words. Some ethereal thinking music on the walk with the doggo this morning - https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=sUn3tQTeBtg&si=8z0KsaEHL5QEQVNc
It can be so hard, but maybe it can be seen as an opportunity to reconnect? Heat of the moment things can be painful and but sometimes we need to look past them. Small things over time become bigger things. We all want feel seen, heard and validated and beyond that see actual lasting change or improvement. Hope you can come to each other with kindness.
Hey thanks. Nail on the head. Hope you have a good day.
Bro I absolutely know those feels. Last couple of big fights its gotten to the point where I've started to suggest we get some professional help. Take some time, take some deep breaths, but just know this is all normal.
Hopefully with some good communication, you guys can make some decisions that will suit you both - no matter what way it goes. Be kind to yourself today!
if you love her if you feel you can't live without her tell her
