Why do people give up their lives for that guy?
They're fed lies that the country is under duress by everything and just a handful of people, namely trump and his allies, are able to save us. They think life is like the movies and they can be a hero
Human wiring
You're supposed to organize into a hierarchy, find a leader and follow them so they can organize things and make sure the tribe survives.
Unfortunately, so much of our modern picture of the world is formed from TV-and-internet bullshit that people can't even determine what's real or fantasy, and so sometimes the wiring malfunctions and someone sort of snaps into obedience to someone like Donald Trump. For a certain type of mental layout it's as unavoidable as flinching when something comes near your eyes, and it's terribly dangerous.
There's a play "Rhinoceros" by Eugene Ionesco which deals with what it looks like when it's happening to people around you. Or, just exist in the US today if you want to see another example 😢
I don't think we are wired for hierarchy, but western society teaches kids to fall in from a pretty young age. Also, at least when I was growing up, there was very little critical thinking/media literacy being taught to kids in public schools. I can't comment on current public school since I have no kids and have not been in the school system in many years. Those things combined with the fact that it is easy to manipulate social media for large companies/governments and you have the rise of Trump.
